Every time it rains the protein feeder clogs up. Thinking about drilling holes in the bottom to help water drain better. Might not be a problem for a few months now

Any ideas?

I now have a puddle of protien slush under the feeder.

The one I inherited had the same problem. On closer examination it was billet riddled. I patched the holes and reattached the bull broken feed horn and it stayed dry until the deer broke it again. It's back in the cave for a better repair.

It's probably humidity making the pellets cake together.

Double check to make sure you don't have any leaks

I had one do the same thing. I brought it back to camp, sealed up the bottom, threw a flashlight inside and put on the lid (at night). I then used black tape to mark the holes (and there were plenty). Brought it in the shop and sealed it up good and haven't had a problem since. Starting in July I mix my corn feeders with 50/50 corn & protein. If there is even a small hole in the feeder, water will find it's way in and make the protein clog it up.

When the wind blows so hard it rains sideways, there is not much you can do except wait for it to dry out. I then pull out a big screwdriver and unclog them. Mine has holes in the bottom that helps with the lighter rains, but I have not found a solution when you get those big, bad storms.

I started using the Redneck T-Post feeders and that is one thing that I've noticed with it, the rain soaked feed issues aren't there. It is a small single port feeder so I can keep the back of the feeder facing to the southeast, the predominate direction moisture in the form of rain or fog comes from. Since switching from the large multiport feeders to these, moisture contaminated feed is no longer an issue.

The little feeders aren't good if you do not reside or are near where they are located as you need to fill them regularly. I check all mine twice a week.

Maybe if you closed/sealed one or two of the ports facing the predominate wind direction, the moisture issue would get better?

I was a bit worried about a single port but the deer line up real nice and take turns.

What feeder do you have?

I made it myself using a protien feeder tube from academy. There are no leaks it just rains into the mouth holes and absorbs up a few inches into the pipe and clogs up.

I'm thinking about putting some kind of flashing overhang above the port to keep moisture out.

My feeder tubes point downward some. That way the sloped top provides a hooding effect. A metal on the bottom prevents feed from running out due to gravity. Still gets wet though with heavy rain.

I haven't tried it but I'm thinking of putting a cone upside down in the middle center. Kind of like boss buck has. I think it keeps the protein from clogging inside of the tube that goes up and then the soggy part the deer can eat out and then it flows clean. Also their spouts have a 10 degree slope. They also have a 1/2" hole in each tube for draining.

You could make the cone out of wood. Maybe make a pyramid.

Have to caulk the heck out of the area where that tube connects to barrel.
