Curiosity question: Are Blesbok rare in Texas, or hard to raise? Just curious, they clearly command a solid trophy fee in TX, seem to be one of the less expensive ones in Africa.

some of the most expensive animals in texas are cheapest in africa. look at impala. they are a dime a dozen over there and are high here. just how it works. $4650 is a good price JD

Yep. You can fly to South Africa, hunt 6 days and kill a blesbok, and fly back home for $4600. No offense to any TX Outfitter but Texas hunts for African game prices are beyond ridiculous.

What about shipping the trophy back home? I've heard that is quite costly as well.

So air fare roundtrip to Africa plus baggage, a six day hunt, possibly a hotel before/after the hunt in Africa, and then shipping the trophy back to the US with custom fees .... for $4650. Where did you see that?

You can believe that about the shipping....oh and don't forget the 8 months to 14 month wait to get your hide and horns back. A friend of mine waited for over a year and then they told him he had better take out additional insurance as they may not make it through customs. I had another friend that had a leopard hide rot in customs before it was released to ship to Texas.

Shipping/clearing is a license to steal. Only done it one time and doubt I will again, but I wanted one big kudu bull pedestal mount in my lifetime. That being said, flights @ $2000, $5000 hunt, $1500 shipping home, $1500 taxi bill and you're still in it for waaaaay less than a 3 day TX kudu hunt @ $15k.

The US $$$ is near all time highs against the SA Rand. Unbelievable deals to be had. I've got a 7 day, 10 animal Namibian cull/managment hunt in August that will cost $5500 inc. airfare.

Your looking at it from the wrong perspective. A lot of the people that do a Super Exotic hunt in Texas don't have the time to take a 7 to 10 day hunt. It's a different product for a different market. It's not a coincidence, that a lot of ranches that have Super Exotics, cater to a corporate clientele.

for every stereotype there's a prototype don't be the prototype

I agree with the above quote

I've been to Africa twice and plan on going again. But there are African animals here in Texas that I just don't think I will ever be able to hunt in Africa. Grants Gazelle is one of them. They are here in Texas, and in my opinion, it would be cheaper to shoot one here then to go to Tanzania to get one. Sable is another. I've seen deals where a Sable has hurt itself, or something has happened that it's cheaper to shoot one here in Texas then to fly to Africa to get one. I' hoping to get mine in Africa, but if a deal comes along, I might be willing to rethink that.

As for Blesbok, I found them to be one of the most clueless animals that I've ever come across. They let you get close, they don't run off, they bunch up together. Then it's just a waiting game until the biggest one steps away from the others for a clear shot. They are cheap in Africa, and it's something different on the wall that doesn't look like anything else, so it's nice to have.

I appreciate all the deturing comments from the hunt i had. Any of you are more than welcome to hunt anywhere you prefer, this was just an advertisement for a few hunts I needed to book on my blesbok. Half of this stuff has nothing to do with my hunt. Not being a jerk but come on guys look what you are posting on my thread just not very respectful

Sorry about that. I did not mean to hijack your thread. Good luck in selling your hunts.

Blesbok ram, not bull.

Hunting Blesbok is good fun and challenging, don't under estimate their senses. All the best selling the hunt. For those interested, Blesbok make for good trophies.
