So I bought some property (20 acres) in one of the core alligator counties with a couple ponds on it. The entire land is often flooded after rains, and is generally swampy. This spring an alligator moved into my pond. It's a small one, but my neighbors say my ponds have held alligators whenever they have water. It has two major bayous within a quarter mile and a neighbor has a 5 acre pond/swamp in the woods within 100 yards.

This is what I want to know:

1) Can landowners in core counties get cites permits for existing alligators on their properties?
2) Can small parcel landowners get cites permits, and if not, why not?
3) If I can get tags, has anybody actively tried to create alligator habitat on their land? This would also seemingly create good duck habitat and would offer one more hunting opportunity.

I left a message for the biologist in our county, and plan on getting him to come out and do a survey to determine whether I can get a cites permit for my land. I know he can answer my questions, but wanted to hear from other landowners with experience.

I was asked by someone the same question. When you find out, please share the process.

Dryberry was the last lake God created and it took the entire seventh day.

Im in non core so not sure about the tags.. as far as habitat best you can do is spread water along the land or hold as much as possible.. leave a lot of it alone.. they don't like people unless they are feeding them.. which your not allowed to do.. to me the best you could do is look into making an ideal place for nutrias since that is a big food source for them.. maybe leave a few more pigs than you usually do..

Put a corn feeder at the water's edge.

You'll lose some deer, but you'll lose a lot of pigs too.

***Have no idea if that would really work***

Kinda iffy subject doing anything to internally bait or attract gators... use your own judgment.
