Most of you already know this but we have been hunting in Oklahoma since around 2010 / 2011, and while we loved the ranch we had, it was time to find something different. We have had a huntable population of birds all this time while West TX kind of struggled, then last year, west TX boomed and our population went down.
So we ended up getting on a place in Irion county for after deer season. (said we can probably make one hunt in December) the place is smaller than we are used to (4.5 sections) but there are only two quail hunters so it should be plenty. Has a house / cabin we can stay in and we can shoot all the hogs and coyotes that we want. Really looking forward to being back in West TX! Supposed to be about 70% bobs 30% blues. I haven't seen the place yet but my buddy went and looked at it and said it looks real good.
Haven't had it in years but never spit any out. I am a sucker for happy endings and strapped cowboys.

Congratulations. Quail season opens a week before deer season. Maybe, just maybe you can hunt that weekend. How far is your drive?

Thats the only bummer, about 6 hours. Just part of it when you live in East TX.

I would think they would be getting easier to find. Since virtually everyone has quail now.

Congratulations on your find. Sounds perfect.

That cool that you have a mix. I have a young dog that is deadly on running birds. She just runs em down and freezes. I can't wait to see what she can do on blues but I'll be on public land. I have a great place north east of yours it's got the numbers for sure but only bobs. I look forward to your posts this season...man it just can't get here fast enough

A buddy has several sections of land near Midland. I plan to go there once in November and then our new place once in December. Will probably make three long weekend trips total in January & February. We always guide for a group at their ranch west of Abilene in February too. Should be a fun year.
