Think Im gonna rattle can an AR this weekend just for the heck of it. Anyone have examples? Was thinking of 1st layer using FDE then use some sort of leaves or grass as a stencil for a second color.

KRoyal, that looks really cool. I was thinking about something a little less effort with 1-2 colors. 4-5 color multi-cam looks tough.

Appreciate it, I got some stencils off eBay which saved a lot of time cutting those out of painters tape. Think it was 7 different colors including the clear. Was a biatch lol.

KRoyal, I like that a lot. How long did it take all together? Got it done over the course of one weekend. Several layers to let dry and a ton of prep probably spent a whole 10 minutes actually painting lol.

How do you prep it before you paint it?

Clean it very very well and when you think you're done clean it some more lol. Then once it's clean degrease it with brake cleaner and make sure the brake cleaned completely dries. then lay down two colors in thin coats, wait for them to dry and repeat for a second coat. Make sure it is completely dry and start the taping process. Lay down another 2 colors in 2-3 coats waiting for each coat to dry. Tape a lot more and do the last two colors. Wait for it to fully dry and put a matte clear on it in 3-4 coats but keep it thin as possible. Only thing I didn't do was probably maybe wet sand it which would probably made it turn out better.

Get some fish net stockings and stretch over it as well. Makes a nice honey comb pattern.

Also I can see you took the stock and grip off. Did you separate the upper and lower before you painted? If you can shoot me a pm, I'm going to do this to mine just don't want to mess it up

I did spray the buffer tube, that's the biggest part that gummed up afterward. Make absolutely sure they paint has cured before you put anything back on. It would have also slid on and off better had I wet sanded it. Leave the upper and lower together along with the rail attached so that the pattern all blends together. When you put the stencils on some will cover both upper and lower receiver. Plus the blending/fading from one color to the next of the multicam pattern they need to be all one unit.

Lol no That really didn't happen, I just made my wife buy them no questions asked. A gym laundry bag works as well it just doesn't have as much give in it so you can't stretch it over it like the stockings.

It's not like we were gonna use all three together just the condoms and whipped cream.

That brings to mind the days of my youth, when I buzzed around from flower to flower - trying to get a little honey on my stinger.
Kind regards, charlesb
