Hey guys, kinda new here but have been a member of the Fishing forum for a long time. This is kind of a shotgun/waterfowl question. I have an older SBE1 that I had to have the choke tube removed by Briley. The tube was destroyed and I need to come up with a replacement. It was an IC and was all I ever used when hunting everything from doves with lead to waterfowl with steel. When waterfowling I only shoot at birds inside of 30yds so I don't need a tight choke.

What would you guys suggest as far as mfgs. and their tubes?

Thanks, Steve

For IC there is no need to drop a lot of cash. Just order a replacement onlne. I am not a Briley fan. I think they are over rated and way over priced. Their customer service is lacking.

I used Briley for many of years then switched over to Patternmaster and now i am stuck. They make some great choke tubes and have one in every one of my guns. They are expensive but like everything else in life you get what you pay for. Look into it mobile classic maybe what you want.

I've killed all the birds you can kill in Tx except a couple quail out west. turkeys, dove, duck, pheasant, bobwhites etc. All I have ever used are the standard choke in either f, m, i/c or i/m. If I wanted to shoot a turkey at 50-6- yards I guess I would buy me one of them high dollar tubes but a called in turkey to me is about 35 yards and in. same with all the birds.

for what youre wanting, I would just go buy another flush factory choke and go on about my business. If you are going to look at getting a nice tight pattern at 60 yds and practice up so kill shots can be made at that far routinely I would consider getting a patternmaster. Unless you are looking to get a choke tighter than full that holds together good without "blowing out", most of the time the flush chokes that come with the gun will pattern as good or often times better than some over priced Briley stuff.

I appreciate all of the input. I have no real problem going back with a factory tube. But seeing as how the cost of a factory is pretty close to an aftermarket I was just checking to see if there was another alternative.

Thanks, Steve

I've got an SBE i and use Carlson, Briley, and factory. If it is a 28" barrel, I would use factory.
If 26" barrel, go with any of the three.
I shoot duck, geese, dove, quail, and pheasant. I have 28" and 26" barrel.
I haven't noticed any significant difference in the hit rate, but I haven't been paying much attention to it.

Dont really think there is much difference in how all the ICs pattern (at least not enough for me to tell), but i really really like having an extended choke. Easy to check tightness out in the field without a tool and much easier to change out. I have a few of the brileys that seem to make flying ducks fall out of the sky pretty good.

Carlson is the only aftermarket I've ever owned. I haven't had a need to try anything else...

A factory Benelli tube for an SBE costs almost just as much as a Briley. Look at their signature series duck chokes. Around $50-60. I love mine.
