Do you use one? I've always mounted them myself but have never had one "professionaly" done. I will admit that I don't use a torque wrench and that I have many that lose zero very quickly. I just bought my son a knew gun and mounted and bore sighted a scope. The gun grouped well the first five rounds. Went back and shot five more after lunch and it was all over the place. Dialed back in with one shot, it would be off the next. This is out of a standard remmy 700 in .243.

If the mounting screws are still tight then it could be a problem with the scope.

I have always mounted mine myself.

What area are you in? If you want to try a torque wrench you are more than welcome to come by and we can mount it if you are close.

Thanks for the offer but I'm pretty far from you.

I do mount scopes professionally. The most common issue I see on scopes is that the screws have been torqued too much. That is where a torque wrench comes in handy but it is not absolutely required most of the time.

Your quote above is intriguing. That should not be happening. What brands and models of scopes are you using? Your issue could be the scope, rings and/or bases or the rifle. Each potential issue needs to be eliminated systematically. Your quote keeps resonating in my head and something tells me it is the key. Feel free to PM me with your phone number and we can talk about it.

Even without a torque wrench I can't see a scope coming loose that quickly if you tightened the screws any decent amount. Will be interested in reading the results of this. P_102

Yep once I got a torque wrench I realized I was over tightening.

I would guess there are other issues besides scope mounting.

If the gap between the ring caps, and rings are even, and the screws are tight, then the rings aren't going to make it go from good to bad that fast.

Is the scope base tight?

Are the action screws tight?

What scope are you using?

Did you clean the barrel between shot strings?

15-20 inch pounds, or whatever the mfg recommends.
