So I've got a Rem 700 in 300 blackout with a 16" barrel. Don't really need all that barrel so I'm thinking about taking it down to 8 or 9". Thoughts?

Are you going to be able to use that same stock? Modify it? I think a shorty would be cool.

I've got to measure and see where it would put me. I could inlet it for the suppressor if needed, I really don't want to shorten the stock.

is just chop it off about 3/4 of an inch from the stock have it threaded and target crown added and call it good.

That is already a slick setup. But making it an sbr would make it over the top. up

I SBR'b a bolt gun last year, its a bit unconventional but I love it. Did a 10" Ruger 77/357 and I would do it again.

Probably about 12lbs loaded as it sits including suppressor.

300 blackout is made for short barrels so it makes sense to sbr this over something with "more umph".
I only shoot subsonic ammo through this rifle anyway.

Go for it, just need enough barrel diameter for the shoulder.

I have a Ruger American compact 300 blackout bolt action I plan to chop down sometime.
Don't really ever use the rifle, I got it for my son 2 years ago and he moved to a 6.8 AR last year.
But I have been thinking it would be awesome SBR'd and a dedicated sub fun gun

Go for it. That would be sick. I'm very curious to see the end result.

Mine came out like this. Not a great picture but you get the idea, OAL is now shorter than the original rifle. 190gr wide meplant cast at 1050fps does the trick.

From your picture it looks like you can only cut off about 2-3" of barrel without modifying the stock.

Here's mine...it's about 10.5-11" on a .223.

Slight Hijack: Doc, is that an extra lens on the photon objective?

Yes, that is the magnification doubler lens...it doubles the fixed magnification up to around 9x.
