Ok, we use an auger and dig 4-5ft holes that are about 10" round... we are using 2-3/8" pipe and cementing them all the way down that 4-5ft hole leaving about 4ft out of the ground to tie off to... These last few rains we have got hammered on the dry creek running and it seems it softens the ground enough to allow something that hits it to simply just push the poles over.... What do you do or what can I do to keep this from happening? Do I need to put anchor posts on each side of the flow of the dry creek so it will keep the posts down? or is there something else I should do when cementing them??? Any advice on how to keep this from happening anymore is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

I flat out don't put fences over the creeks. I saw they were washing away when we bought it and figured why mess with mother nature.. heh

We had a fence across a gravel bottom creek. We always used mesquite or cedar posts that were driven in the gravel with a sledge and not set too deep. They would float out and stayed attached the the wire. The whole deal would wind up along the bank just downstream most of the time. Afterwards, we had to remove the steeples, reset the posts, and run the wire. Every once in awhile we would lose the fence.

how wide and deep is the dry creek? We usually set a couple of large metal posts on top (outside water's path) with a cable across the top between posts, then build a swinging type from the cable using cattle panels with corrugated sheet metal wired along the bottom (so limbs down get caught up in panel) and large cedar posts wired horizontal across the very bottom for weight
