What is the "A" behind the model numbers, has it something to do with having OLED display or not?

Yes the "A" models have an LCD display. The "S" models have an OLED. I have the 38A apex scope and while the picture is excellent, you can tell the difference to the S model. They're all really good for the money.

Thank you for the information I guess that the OLED display is better at low temperature than LCD is that correct?

Probably so. I have no complaints on the LCD and I'm glad I saved the money over the OLED. I have oled in another scope and it's great but the cost difference is a lot. Don't know if temp has any factor or not. I usually pig hunt in warm weather.

Got one on Amazon. TNVC is good for higher end stuff. They have a subsidiary called Night Goggles too. That said, Ultimate Night Vision is the place. They're local to Dallas and they're good to deal with. I think the owner is on this board.

In the early days of the Pulsar product line, I think the A scopes lacked the Picture-in-Picture zoom reticle, but the current production units have it now. I recently purchased a 50A after a lot of research and shooting though different scopes over the course of a year. The OLED was easier on the eyes, but I don't think it would make the difference between identifying a target or making a shot. It was just not worth the price difference.
We all need to practice Whoa more.

I'd just go with Ultimate Night Vision. Email the fellow. He's quick to respond and very helpful.

I read in another thread from you about your 50A you bought from USA optics how was your experience with them It was sweat and painless! I highly recommend them! I purchased a 50a from them at the Mosquite Gunshow the Saturday before Memorial Day. He made me a deal that would have made it stupid to order online...even considering sales tax. I sighted it in that afternoon and hunted with it that night. They had both 38A and 50A on display at the show, with probably 7-8 Pulsar boxes on the back table. He had several other thermals at the show, but don't remember which... I already had my mind made up and was just there to talk price on the Pulsar

For the record, the OLED does perform better at lower temps, but that doesn't come into play much in Texas. LOL... OLED's have a better image also, worth it for some, not for others.
My choice of the ones mentioned would be Ultimate Night Vision. Tyler is great to deal with.

Ok I got the Apex 75A weapon sight, now I need input on which hand held monocular to get in the Pulsar line... Thanks in a advance! I like my HD19A both for the price and its wider field of view. It is definitely more useful for detection than identification, so if you don't want to switch to the rifle scope to make a positive ID, maybe consider going with a HD38A instead. I use both a HD19A and a Apex XD50A and find them to work quite well together.

This is always a dilemma and there is no absolute right answer. Budget affects most folks. The terrain you generally hunt can help narrow your choice. If you hunt a closed in, thick or otherwise heavily wooded area, then a low mag, wide fov monoc will work fine in most instances. If you hunt large open fields, then you are going to want more mag to help with being able to ID. The last thing you want to do is put on a long stalk only to discover the target isn't what you thought. You wasted time and energy.
The terrains that I hunt vary. I use a combination of monocs. Though I own an HD38, it rarely comes out....preferring my IR Patrol with the 640 core instead. The IR Patrol is more compact and the software is far superior to the HD38. I also own two ATN OTS-X's in 6X. These do a splendid job for long range.
It's a tough choice. There is no one size fits all.

I love my HD38A, but that being said I'm on about unit #4 from various problems. The good news is, their customer service is great.

What's the recoil rating on an Apex XD50 A, as I don't understand what 6000 joules equates to...

Nobody truly rates to caliber because people will misinterpret it (and usually do). For example, if I said it was rated for a .308, is that a lightweight .308 or a tacted-out AR10 with 6 lbs of accessories on it? So a joules rating of energy of the bullet leaving is given and you have to figure out how many joules the caliber creates and how much is absorbed by the mass of the gun and accessories to be what is impacting on the scope.
Ideally, a .308 at the muzzle is around 3800-4000 joules. A .338 Lapua is closer to 6300 joules.
A good rule of thumb is to not go over a .308. Remember, that even if rated for more, does not mean it will have as long of a life at 5000 joules as it would at 2500, sort of like your car can do 130 mph, but if that is all you drove it, there would be problems that came up quicker than if you drove it at a more moderate 60-70 mph.
