I think a big part of the decision on which unit to buy depends on what the primary intended quarry happens to be. As stated above, if stalking game like hogs you will want extra mag so that a lot of time and effort is not expended needlessly.

In my case, I'm primarily calling predators, mostly coyotes and occasionally a bobcat with a fox or two thrown in, since the animals are coming to a call, the HD 19A is very adequate to let me know a target is approaching from out as much as several hundred yards in flat terrain. In more wooded or brushy areas, the distance needed to locate is not as great, but the large FOV is very handy for scanning. Once the approaching animal is located I can switch to my 50A for better ID while my hunting partner goes to his NV scope just in case their is a question on ID.

I can get on the target faster and better going from thermal spotter to thermal scope, but he does pretty well going from his thermal spotter to NV and has added the ID advantage, but on multiples or follow up shots the advantage goes back to me.

My fields are really wide open and a large lens spotter keeps me from wasting time walking to something that turns out to be a deer or a loose cow or something. Like DoubleUp said, it's good to have gen 3 handy as well for most positive ID before the shot.

Thanks for all the responses on these subjects, got an HD38A monocular and a XD50A weapon sight last
Friday, already had a PVS14 with 3x magnifier along with an IR illuminator/laser. Played with both units Saturday night at the ranch learning the buttons and features, it was just too hot to sight in the rifles I'm going to put the XD50 on... But weatherman says there's a cold front coming in this weekend, only going to be in the low 90's

You're going to love that combo. I have the same ones. I have a Bushnell Equinox if I'm really unsure what I'm seeing but 99.9% of the time that isn't an issue at my shooting distances.

That's going to be a good setup. It's key to have both a rifle scope as well as a handheld.
