Mature Canebrakes in East Texas probably average 4-1/2' to 5' and have quite a 'girth'.

They are a protected species in Texas.

Friend of mine sent me this pic years ago. Snake was a road kill IIRC.

He wears a size 10D boot...if that helps with scale.

It is illegal to kill or possess a canebrake in Texas (I'm sure there are very limited exceptions).
