Mad Dawg Weapons System MDWS concept similar to that of the 300 AAC Blackout was to use a standard bolt and magazine for a 270 bullet. What do you get? The Wolverine. I honestly was looking at .358 Socom but when I saw this deal for $300.00 I couldn't pass.

is this any better than the standard .270 ar platform Absolutely not .270 is an AR10 which will maintain more case space for powder. AR10 is gonna cost more. Again a 300.00 was my motivation.

You can't shoot .270 Win out of an AR-10 FYI. Maybe he was referring to 6.8? Interesting that you were looking for a .458 socom and ended up with a wolverine. Two cartridges with completely different strengths/purposes IMO. The .277 Wolverine looks to be a neat round, and Mark at MDWS is a passionate and dedicated guy. I am sure it will provide you with hours of fun!

I made the mistake of ordering a carbine length gas tube instead of the necessary rifle length tube. That being said, I didn't get a chance to check functionality but checked some preliminary loads. Tested a bunch of powder weights but here is the final loads I liked. Barnes 85gr TSX @ 2760 FPS max hunt range 270 YDS @ 2000 FPS, 754 FT.LB. Barnes 95gr TAC TX @ 2700 FPS max hunt range 295 YDS @ 2000 FPS, 843 FT.LB. Sierra 110 Pro Hunt @ 2535 FPS max hunt range 248 YDS @ 2000 FPS, 976 FL. LB. *2000 FPS is generic velocity I use, not manufacturer data This is just a starting point. I really need to check functionality. I wasn't too concerned about accuracy today since this was my first time out with this rifle. For medium game size I like to maintain a minimal of 1.5 MOA. All shots today all under that range. Which was awesome. I can tighten groups once I spend more time with rifle. Since this will eventually be my thermal hunter all my shots will be under 150 yards.

Agreed! Getting mixed reviews about the survivability of a thermal scope on a heavy recoil AR platform. Most of my night hog hunting is under 125 yards. The .458 would devastate those hogs. May also devastate an expensive scope.

I've been tossing around the idea of a 25-45 Sharps.

I built a SIX5 a couple month's ago,and really like it. It's a 6.8 SPC case necked down to 6.5 mm and then trimmed .060". I've been testing Hornady 100 gr AMax and Sierra 120 gr Pro Hunter bullets with it,and have several good shooting loads. The weak link has been the brass,Hornady was all I could find when I first built the rifle and Hornady brass has weak cases. Whenever you get up in higher pressures, the brass is toast with expanded primer pockets. I started with 250 cases, and have tossed about 50 in the trash. I did buy some Federal brass, but haven't had a chance to try it yet.
The 458 SOCOM is a very fun cartridge to shoot,I built one several years ago and hunted with it for a couple years. Anything within 150 yards doesn't stand a chance with the 458. The problem is 150 yards is about all your going to shoot with it. My drop with a 325 gr FTX bullet was 2.5 feet at 200 yards, and 5'3" at 300 yards. The bullet is literally falling out of the sky at farther ranges!
I have always loved odd ball calibers, but they aren't for everyone. If your a novice at reloading,I'd suggest staying with standard calibers. You will waste a lot of time-powder-bullets trying to figure out what wildcats like to shoot, and since most don't have much if any published data to go by you kinda load by the seat of your pants.

If you like to use "oddball calibers" Quickloads is worth the $ for data and information.
Looks like a fun round and gun. For that price I would have jumped on it as well, then again I usually gravitate toward the less popular calibers, some of which have become quite popular now.

I would consider jumping to this and getting out of BLK300.
Heck, I'm thinking about selling off my AAC upper, ammo and brass. I just don't use it.
