Will a possum stick his little grungy paw in a dog proof raccoon trap? I have one coming up to the house regularly to eat cat food. Would put out a coil spring trap, but don't want to catch the wife's cat.

Cat will put its paw in the trap, catch the opossum by live trap or 55 gallon barrel

Possum will get caught. Use dog food or a marshmallow to avoid the cat getting in it.

Yes, Possum will reach into the trap. So will Squirrels.

Nice. I was thinking peanut butter, but a marshmallow might be easier. I've trapped lots of stuff, but always with a live trap, or a coil/longspring trap. No experience with the dog proof traps.

Marshmellows are the best bait for those dog proof traps. Coons love them and your hands don't stink after setting the trap. I would bet a possum would go after the marshmellow too. One tip...put one marshmellow under the trigger then set another on top of the tube so it is visable. The varmit will see the marshmellow from a distance that is one top, once he eats that one he will look for another, next thing you know hes stuck in your trap
