I've been thinking of buying Cabela's "Bug Skinz" (or similar skin suits) to keep the chiggers off, but before I do so I was wondering how effective they were. Is the fit tight enough to keep chiggers off (they seem to have no problem crawling under sock elastics)? Do those of you who hunt in them in chigger-infested areas find that skin suits are good protection against them?

Chiggers ate me up this weekend. Time to break out the bug spray. Would be interested in knowing about the Bug Skinz as well.

Best thing to do for chiggers is buy some sulphur powder. Pour it in an old sock, tie a knot on the top end and then pat the sock on your boots and lower pants legs when you get out of your vehicle. I keep a sock filled with it in a big ziplock bag inside my truck just for chiggers.

They're really brutal this year, probably thanks to a very mild winter and a wet spring. I used to get a handful of bites during spring turkey and summer hog hunts, this year I'm covered in them. I'm going to give the skins a try, they're only $20-30, so no big loss if they aren't what they're hyped up to be.

I've heard of sulfur being effective, better than Deet (which I found doesn't help much with chiggers). The trouble is, (as with Deet), it seems like this is something that game can smell from a mile away, so I'm not sure it's the best choice for hunting. Have you used the sulfur while on deer or hog hunts without a problem?

Spray your clothes with permethrin,
Sulfur based lotions help a bunch, I use it as a secondary line of defense

Here is some sulfur soap made here in TX, This is good stuff. I suspect it would help prevent bites and I know darned well it helps after healing begans after one use.

Chiggers are evil. I'll try anything. The best I have found is to use regular strong deet, only on my skin
. Just spraying it on my clothes doesn't help much. Take off your clothes and spray it on our skin in all the places you get bit.

Will be watching this, last week went to the lease and got tore up by chiggers while cutting the grass around the camphouse. My ankles and feet were on fire that night. Then got to bed woke up the next morning had several bad spider bites all over my body. Does anyone know what you can spray in the yard to kill them? With all this rain grass grows like wild fire can't get it cut fast enough.

Chiggers have been brutal this year. Went to our lease last Saturday, and even tho we sprayed ourselves and our clothing, they still got to us.

Sulphur powder works great and we need to pick some up.

One thing I found for treating the bites, is lotion that's used for poison ivy. Put some on and it immediately killed the itch. Next morning, the bites were gone.

Bayer Complete. Sold at Lowe's and Home Depot. $10-$12 41% concentrate. They have one in a spray bottle that hooks to your water hose, same concentrate, if you have water available. If not, the regular bottle of 41% concentrate mixed in a pump up sprayer.

As for chiggers, my FIL retired from the phone company years ago and recommended Gold Bond Powder applied from the waist down to repel chiggers. I've found if applied from the neck down repels mosquitos also. Just saying.
