What's the value of a used Remington 700 BDL chambered in 30.06? Don't really know much about bolt action rifles and have a guy wanting to do a trade with me. Rifle also comes with a Leupold VX-2 3-9X50mm.

Depends on what shape it's in.

Depends on when its made as well. Several variations depending on when it was made. If made from mid 2000's to now its not going to bring as much because its believed that quality has really took a dump since then. If say pre-2000 it will be more desirable as long as its not a J-lock model although I have never understood the hate for the J-lock since I am not aware of any issues it caused except from people not having the key to unlock it. Even if you don't have the date code just a picture can help date it just based on the stock variations and quality of the bluing. Some years the stocks used skip line checkering, sometimes no skip line, sometimes a swirl type design with pressed checkering vs cut checking, and sometimes a embellished receiver, sometimes high gloss blue and sometimes matte blue. the list goes on and on. A pic is worth a thousand words.

Looked up the code and it appears to be manufactured in 2003. The VX-2 is a older model. I'll get pics soon.

Check and compare on gunbroker or other sites...sale price, not asking price. It looks like the butt pad needs to be replaced or re-installed, that's a negative, as well as what looks like adjustable Leupold base (hard to tell from pic). P_102

Just from looking at that photo, I would have thought this was a much older model than 2003. (Anyone know when Remington dropped the white line spacers?) Are you sure about that date? It also looks to have an after-market recoil pad that isn't fitted onto the stock very well, which will reduce the value somewhat.

Is the bolt jeweled? I can't tell from the photo.

maybe, butt pad issue may be from being squashed from the way the gun was stored.

The butt pad will be replaced. Guy had it stored in the gun safe with too many rifles. Basically needed a bigger safe to fit them all in properly. It does have a jeweled bolt as well. The 2 letters on the barrel that I looked up are "CX" and if I searched it correctly than that puts it as 2003 date. I may have read it wrong so I'm going to take a better look at it later today.

Take a look at this site:

Remington date codes

If "C" is the month code, that would be April, and if "X" is the year code, that would be 1973.

NICE! I wouldn't mind finding one like that. Much preferred over a new 700 of late.

That's right, don't be put off by it being older as long as it is in good condition. Remington was making good quality 700s back then.

Also, FWIW, a new matt black Leupold VX2 3-9x50 can be had for $399.99. Then you've got the cost of the mount, rings, and mounting.

100% NOT a 1970's vintage BDL. Blueing and skip line checkering put it in the early to mid 2000's just like the OP stated. I haven't looked up the date code given but everything other than the kick pad look period to the early-mid 2000's.

As a package that set up should bring $700-$750 if its as clean as it looks from the pic.

Another way to date it would be to look at the muzzle crown. The newer ones will have a simi recessed crown and the older ones will have the usual beveled crown that was so common back then.
