I picked up a scope on a gun I traded for. It has been painted. Anybody know how to get it back to original finish without messing it up? Take any advice I can get.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

This comes down to the age old answer, " It depends." Depends on what kind of paint is on there and what kinda paint the scope has from the factory.

If it was a rattle can job, you may be able to rub it off with some 90% rubbing alcohol and a rag or denatured alcohol. Then try mineral spirits, then try acetone/lacquer thinner.

Or if you are really cautious, a
kitchen scrub pad and some warm soapy water.

Acetone and an old bath towel for a light abrasive.

I've been surprised at how easily some paint can be removed. Colt's alcohol suggestion is a great place to start.

Check out the citrus paint remover. I forget what the brand name is but you spray it on, 3 minutes later just wipe everything off. It worked great on a stainless barrel. Ymmv on the scope.
