Can this chamber neck gauge be used to check barrel length for crunching numbers in Quickload, the way I am doing it is just use case with the gauge inside the mouth and push the case inside the chamber until it seats as far as it can go, but do not use the bolt and use a Dewey rod from the muzzle end and touch the case with it and mark the rod and measure for barrel length? Just trying the easier way.

Barrel length is closing the bolt on an empty chamber, and measuring with a rod from the bolt face to the end of the barrel.

yup Chad is spot on as usual. For quickloads use the boltface measurement. The line "bullet travel" in quickloads is the barrel length (end to boltface) - case legnth + seating length to base. In the capture below for a 308 22-2.014+.510=2.496 bullet travel which accounts for the distance the base of the bullet travels before leaving the barrel, or the distance the bullet is under pressure and accelerating after powder starts to burn
lf the saying "Liar, Liar your pants on fire" were true Mainstream news might be fun to watch

Barrel length is closing the bolt on an empty chamber, and measuring with a rod from the bolt face to the end of the barrel. That's correct, but I wonder how many ATFE agents know that?

Thanks, my assumption was wrong, thought only the lands was needed as a measurement.

passthru: I believe the answer is yes; all the same for rifle, shotgun, and auto pistol. Only thing different is revolver, which is end of forcing cone (in front of the cylinder) to the front end of the barrel.
