I just bought a 300 a couple of days ago and was wondering if anyone has any good pet loads they would be willing to share. I will be hunting primarily elk, mule deer, and barbary sheep with it. Thanks!

Chris.

I am guessing a 180 grain, been shooting Sierra, Speer, and Hornady bullets for most of my other rifles. At this point, I have not even shot the rifle, so I am completely up to recommendations.

R22, H1000, IMR 7828, H4831, IMR7977, 4000MR, as well as a few others are all good options. Nosler has a few good loads and powder recommendations below. R22 gets my top pick.

Cleric,

Thank you. What kind of groups is it putting and at what ranges?

Chris.

My first gen sendero likes 180 accubonds over 73.5 RL-22 seated to mag length. Good luck. Chad gave you some others but seems 22 is hard to beat.

5 shots in a dime at 100. Good groups out to distance

Had a early 90's Classic M70 SS WMg w/ a 26" factory barrel that loved IMR 4831 at about a grain under Sierra book max, RP brass & mag primers and would stack Sierra 180gr SPBT's under a nickle/dime sized hole all day at a 100 yards. Never had a chance to stretch it out though to see if the groups would hold together.

I am using 74.0 grains of IMR-4831. Good accuracy and no pressure signs in my rifle. I've used this with 180 grain Nosler Accubonds and Barnes TTSX.

Having had a several 24" barrels in couple factory guns, mostly SAKO's & Ruger 'tanger's, my 26" M70 in a tupperware stock was the most comfortable to shoot, balanced better it seems like, with less muzzle jump, even though it was muzzle heavy with the Magnum barrel profile, balancing about an inch in front of the front receiver screw with an 18oz scope on it. 26" barrel helps with muzzle blast as well a scootch. I got a 22" because when I ordered the rifle, I thought I got the one with a 24", but when it came in, it had the 22". I went back and looked at the order and yes, I did indeed order the 22". I would have much preferred the 24, but it is what it is.

I have been using Federal Premium 180 grain nosler partions for several years now. The the round is accurate enough out of my Remington 700 (about 1.5 inch groups at 200 yards). Where the round really shines is its performance on game. A professional hunter in Africa recomended them years ago to me and I have been using them ever since. My largest animal taken with them was a moose last year and it was a one shot kill.
