I have one opening on our lease in Groveton, Texas (trinity county). Its only about 2 hours door to door from Houston. The lease is 600 acres of timber company land. We only have 6 members, most of which are family and friends.

The lease is MLD 3. We are currently meeting habitat management practices the best we can, but we are working on getting to the point where we plant proper food plots annually and build some hog traps. The neighboring 5,000 acres are also MLD 3 that are managed by our same biologist. The lease was taken over last year by our group and we’re working on whipping it into shape.

The lease has been MLD 3 for the last 5 years and we’ve seen a significant improvement in our bucks. We typically get 10 tags each year (6 antlerless and 4 antlered). Does are plentiful. We see lots of bucks, but are required by the biologist to only shoot 4+ year olds, so we typically don’t fill all the buck tags each year. We expect in the next few years to see many more older bucks. Hogs are very plentiful. We are allowed to hunt any legal game year round.

Dues are $1,200 annually. $900 goes to the landowner and $300 goes to the club fund to pay for camp improvement projects and MLD requirement projects.

There is a camp site with no running water or electricity. We do have generators for light and are building a rainwater collection system. We have a nice cleaning station and are building a proper outhouse this fall. You are welcome to bring a trailer, tent, or build a shelter if approved by the landowner.

Immediate family members are the only guests allowed by the landowner, but must hunt with a member and can only shoot of the member’s tags.

We take the following things very seriously and won’t tolerate members who aren’t willing to obey them strictly:
-TPWD rules
-We don’t allow drinking while hunting
-We are big on gun safety

We like to cut up and have fun, probably more than other leases, but we take our safety seriously and separate the shenanigans from the guns.

If you have a tractor with implements that can help with mowing and planting, that is a plus. Also, construction and welding skills and equipment are a plus. We’re looking for someone who can fit in with the group well, can be trusted, follows rules, and is willing to put in some work to improve the lease.

If interested, send me a message telling me a little bit about yourself and feel free to ask any questions you might have. We'll try to be flexible to show the land over the next couple months.
