Has anyone ever been to this show? Anything I need to know about fees or just general info? Are there really good deals to be found or am I better off going to academy? Looking for a good deer rifle for this year, may try and check out some hand guns too. Thanks for the info!

I gave up years ago.. If you have some time to kill and just want to walk around and check stuff out.. sure. Dealers trying to sell used guns for about what you can buy new.
I loved going to gun shows with my dad as a kid, now I pretty much think they are a waste of time.

Gun shows are not like they used to be. It's easier and cheaper to search online and have a gun shipped to a local FFL guy. Just my opinion.
In the end, it's not the years in your life that count, it's the life in your years.

I go to the San Antonio Show a couple or three times a year. You rarely find a bargain from the tables set up by the vendors, however, the Happy Hunting Ground is the visitors to the shows that are carrying firearms that they want to sell. Make sure you do some shopping on line before hand to see what prices are on guns of interest to you, and carry a whole wad of $20.00 bills; like 6-700 dollars worth. Examine the person's firearm carefully, and don't hesitate to ask them what their very best price is. If it sounds reasonable, pull out your wad of 20's and offer them at least 20-40 bucks less than their best price. The worst that can happen is that they'll tell you "no!" And if they tell you "no," but you think it's a fair asking price, jump on it and leave happy!

One other thing, Yancy: get there EARLY! The line can be several hundred yards long, and while it generally moves pretty quickly, if there are lots of people bringing guns in to attempt to sell, each firearm has to be checked and then fixed with a wire tie to make it inoperable, it can slow the line down considerably, even though they have "one line for gun check, and one line for entry fees only," it rarely works efficiently. Think TSA at O'Hare Field in Chicago. . .

if you are not carrying a firearm IN, you can bypass the ones getting zip tied, you occasionally find a bargain
