If you have ever spear fished then you know how hard and challenging it can be. This has been a humbling endeavor for me so far. The free diving and holding your breath for extended amounts of time at 30-40 ft is a challenge itself. Thats not mentioning learning the tricks to get close enough for a shot. Im amazed when I talk to the locals here. They can go down 50-70 ft while holding their breath for 5 minutes at a time! I managed to connect on this nice clown triggerfish and Ill take it as a start! Hopefully ill continue to improve and get into some bigger fish. The other guy I was with was able to connect with the small parrot fish. They made one delicious dinner that night!

Very cool I use to spear fish a little back in the 80's when I lived in Malibu, Halibut was the main target.

A weight belt will help with your bottom time. Also, invest in a 3 prong if you haven't already, it will help you become a better "hunter". It'll also be better for getting in the holes than that gun you have, what is that? 130?

This brings back memories from over 50 years ago. My "ocean" was the Mediterranean Sea. Thanks for posting this.

Awesome. Brings back memories for me also. A very long time ago I made trips to the florida Keys every year and did lots of spearfishing. I went though a couple big crappy JBL band guns, but I took more fish with a little spanish made pneumantic nimrod clipper than with anything else. Probably one of the first pneumatic guns out there. I still had it till just a few years ago, but the seals were dried out, the pump was lost, no parts available, ugly, and useless. But it was a collectors item being from the 70s, so I sold it on ebay on agreement with the wife that I could buy another speargun with whatever it brought. Even if I never go spearfishing again. So I now have a beautiful hand picked Padauk wood 36 Special AB Biller on display in my home office that has never been shot. Someday maybe I will find somewhere in Texas with big Tilapia and clear enough water to give it a go with. So Crew Chief, do please keep posting the spearfishing pictures so us old land trapped spearfishers can relive vicariously through your posts.

That's really cool, always wanted to try that! Closest I've come to spear fishing is when I was stationed on Okinawa. We'd snorkel off the sea wall about a half-mile and "poke" octopus out of the coral reef with our 5' mini-tridents, about 12-15 feet down. Most were small, but every now and then you'd end up with 6 feet of tentacle on a 5 foot stick. We'd bring them back to the sea wall and auction them off to the old Japanese women for beer money. Good times. Probably broke all kinds of laws, but it was fun.
