Need to know if anyone in East Texas is getting hogs to bait right now.
Have a new property to hunt and rancher say's he see's a bunch but they haven't hit the bait we put out.
Oiled carpet on tree, pig pipe, kool aid corn scattered along trail, anise oil in sandy spot for wallow, and corn with diesel scattered.
Been out a couple of weeks and no hog sign, only cow tracks.
Both bait stations are in edge of pasture with heavy woods and creek within 25 yards.
Should be no hunting pressure and no public roads anywhere close.
Is there too much for them to eat in the woods right now to keep them from bait or are the moved somewhere else?
Don't want to snoop around in the woods and bugger them.

Wait, what? You used all the miracle attractors and hogs didn't just show up?

Sometimes it takes a while for hogs to find the bait, assuming they are there. Regardless of what the farmer says, if you aren't seeing any sign, then you may not have any pigs right now. If you don't have pigs, then they can't come to the bait.

You may want to snoop around the woods and figure out if you actually have any hog sign in the immediate area or not. If you find current sign, such a tracks, poop on a trail, etc., you may want to change your baiting location. Put up some game cameras along game trails.

Don't put out corn with diesel where cattle can get it.

Well, there is an abundance of natural food out there this time of year, so they don't need to go to feeders or look for attractants necessarily. I think you will find in time that all these additives and attractants do nothing more than plain old corn. They do one thing good, take money out of your pocket and put it in someone elses. You said you spread kool aid corn along a trail. I hope you didn't put it on the trail and never walk on a game trail. Further, when hogs come across new smells, they will often avoid the area at least for awhile. Don't overdo it with all the baiting. Like DNS said, don't put corn with diesel (if you just think you have to use diesel) where cattle can access it.

With all the recent rain, it should be possible to find some hog tracks if they're in the area. As DNS suggested, this would be a good time to look for signs of hogs yourself. If you do find indications they're in the area, it might give you more ideas as to how/where to attract and hunt them.

I often have difficulty distinguishing between the tracks of a large hog and a small calf. If I see what might be hog tracks mixed in with the tracks of larger cows, I assume they're all cattle.

You should see sign cause the rain should have em on the move. When I used to hunt them professionally and they were hitting the new browse or just got shy of corn cause we pressured them to hard we would switch to milo seed I our traps and star lt catching them again. The county agent swore by sour milo but I was running so many traps I never had time to sour it and it worked just as good for me.

I had a ton of hogs back in December, at any given time I could have 50 to 100 scattered between 6 feeders. In January they disappeared. I just started seen them again on cameras last week. They do move around from time to time.

scout around, if ya find sign , rooting droppings, wallows, set up along it at dark thirty using wind ta your advantage lights off... You'll hear em if thar around.. caveman days.... Warmer weather they'll move more at night... Early mornings are good...
