My wife sent in everything by 20 Dec '15 - got the license like the very end of Feb '16. About two months is what folks are reporting on another forum.
Only at the end do you realize the power of the Dark Side.

Haven't had it in years but never spit any out. I am a sucker for happy endings and strapped cowboys.

Turned in all my stuff in mid-February but haven't heard a peep. Anybody in the same boat? I was all in 18-Feb, got my license 76 days later. I called DPS after my 60 day mark and they gave me an update as to where my application was in the process. Might give them a call and see if there is some problem.

I waited 18 minutes on hold and gave up. Sent an email and got this lovely response: Due to a large increase in Handgun License applications, Customer Service Representatives are temporarily assisting in processing applications. At this time, we are diligently working applications to process within statutory mandates. Prior to and after HB 910 (Open Carry) took effect, DPS received approximately 136,000 Handgun License application payments compared to approximately 57,000 over the same time period last year (a 139% increase). In anticipation of the increased application volume, DPS has proactively implemented measures to ensure compliance with the statutory processing time frames for original and renewal applications. Outlined below are the steps the Agency is taking to process the increased volume: 1) Authorized overtime for DPS Regulatory Services Division (RSD) staff, extended work hours and implemented additional shifts seven days a week. 2) Reassigned RSD Customer Service Representatives to Licensing on a temporary basis to process applications. 3) Hired temporary staff to assist RSD in processing LTC applications. 4) DPS has also initiated an overtime project involving multiple divisions outside of RSD to assist in processing the influx of applications. This effort has resulted in additional employees (working multiple shifts, seven days a week) assisting with LTC processing (outside of their regular work schedules). By statute, DPS has up to 60 days to issue an original LTC, and 45 days to issue a renewal license. However, it is imperative that applicants understand that these time periods are calculated from the time a fully-completed application AND supporting documents are received by the department. In the event more information or documents are required to complete an application, DPS has an additional 180 days to complete the review process. More information on this increase and the LTC application process is available at the DPS website under the following link: https://www.txdps.state.tx.us/rsd/chl/applicantreminder.htm Dannette Manager

Call again, I had to wait 45 mins and according to others that was minimal. Check out the Texas chl forum and you will realize how bad the timeframes are for licenses. Still, call and ask for an update, even if you are on hold for an hour.

Mine is in the mail, expect to get it anyday now. It's been slightly over 3 months for me (submitted everything the first of March). After 2 months I received a letter stating that the form was not complete. I did not notice before I submitted it but the damn instructor failed to enter the completion dates on the lines next to HIS signature. I then checked with my buddy that took the class the same day with me and sure enough it would appear the instructor left out the completion dates on everyones CH-100 forms so the entire classes were returned for more information. That resets your clock from 60 days to 180 by the way. I added the dates and mailed it in - then checked back with them a month later. They hadn't even updated their system to show that the form had been received - said it could take 8 weeks. I then submitted it again electronically since she indicated that would be received the next day. It's been 3 months at this point and she says oh and your clock resets from the point that we receive your completed form and it will be 180 days after that. I thought 6 months was a bit much so I sent a letter to both my state Rep and my state Senator. The State Senator responded immediately via phone indicating they would open a case with DPS. Within 3 days DPS called me informed me it was being processed and was being mailed. That this takes up to 10 days. The State Senator's office called me again within 5 minutes stating same. This was a week ago today. It took the State Rep's office a little longer - they responded today but when they checked of course they were informed it was in the mail and responded back to me again. So long story short - contacting your elected representatives does work. Otherwise I would be waiting another 3 months.

I got mine shortly after the post I made above...emailing my state senator and rep was definitely the way to go. My buddy that was in the same class is still trying to get his stuff sorted out. Not only did he have the same issue I did - where the instructor did not fill in the completion dates next to his signatures, but he's a veteran and the Army had given him the wrong copy of his DD-214. Apparently it didn't have his exit date on it that is on one of the other DD-214 copies so they are having to send him that before he can give that to DPS. Once he gets the right DD-214 copy in and submits it, he's also going to contact his State senator and rep for help since it's been 4 months for him at this point.

Apparently he did so because you pay less as a veteran. In his case it obviously wasn't worth it because it increased his wait time significantly due to the DD214 copy issue which had never come up before on anything he had to present it for. Earl Why is DD214 in the picture? I didn't use mine.

Yep, vets pay ~ $27.61 for renewal! DD214 is required to get the lower rate and indicate "veteran" on the LTC card! My renewal was 5 weeks door to door!

I finally got through on the phone a couple of weeks ago-they somehow didn't have my form 100. Submitted it again, guess we'll see how long it takes now.

Me and two other guys got certified back in January. The other tw0 guys sent theirs in on the same day, two days after the class. Guy #1 sent his certified mail, #2 sent his regular. #1 got his exactly 4 weeks later, while #2 waited 12 weeks. I sent mine in regular mail the following Monday (theirs was sent on Friday) and waited 10 weeks. I surely don't understand their process, and now guy #1 thinks he's a brainiac for doing his that way. But I heard another person that sent theirs certified, and it took a couple of months. So who knows really, lol. I dang sure don't.
Mmmm Hmmm

I wouldn't be surprised if the wait time rolls back to levels of several years ago. With all the unrest nationally, more and more people will be taking courses and clogging up the system. Its a good problem to have. We need more people with a stake in the 2nd amendment.
