I'm wondering what the best scope would be for a Ruger Mark III Target Competition pistol.

Some sort or micro red dot. I had a Burris Fastfire on one for a long time. If you're wanting a scope with magnification not just an optic maybe a fixed 4x pistol scope.
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

Some sort or micro red dot. I had a Burris Fastfire on one for a long time. If you're wanting a scope with magnification not just an optic maybe a fixed 4x pistol scope. I agree on the red dot, although I'd recommend a Bushnell Trophy 2-6x if you wanted magnification.

I have a Burris fast Fire II on my Ruger .22/.45. Its great indoors but in bright sunlight the dot is hard to pick up sometimes, especially for shooters who have never used one.
I may replace it with Aimpoint or similar red dot. Maybe a C-More, lots of competition shooters use them...
as far as magnification. I would get a variable and a good set of shooting sticks. scoped handguns are hard to hold steady.

I put a leupold 2x on it and it definitely seems harder to hold steady although I figure the scope just makes me realize how much my hands are actually moving when I'm shooting it.

I like the cmore for a red dot as well. It's the only way to fly for a practical shooting gun. On my mark 3, I have a cheap-o tube style red dot that has served me well. It all depends on budget and purpose.
