I'm looking to get a GSP for the family. We haven't owned a hunting dog before but have decided that we would like a GSP. I would like to get it from a hunting dog breeder who can train the pup as well. I live in Wichita Falls, if I could find a reputable breeder with 6 hours from home would be nice. Who do you guys recommend?

I've been looking at Anderson gun dogs in Olney. They have some high bred stock and they're 45 minutes from you. They have 2 bitches bred right now. As close as they are they could probably train you and the pup at the same time.

Maybe you should pick up the phone and call him. Some people don't like doing business over emails. I'm one of them. I've been a oilfield salesman for 25 years and hate email. Some of my young customers ( that I see weekly) started texting and emailing orders in a few years ago. I'm never too busy to respond to any type of order but I'm not holding a commodity that's all that scarse right now. Bird dog pups in Texas are easy to sell these days. I would only do business with people who are easy to deal with and do business on my terms.

When I was growing up I couldn't have imagined paying for a pup. In the west Texas Sandhills if someone had a good dog and another man had a good bitch they bred them and all of your friends got a pup.

I drove to South Dakota last year and paid money that I thought was crazy for a pup I wanted. If I hadn't wanted her someone else would have gladly taken her. It's just the way it is these days.

Charlie Rose came highly recommended to me but he's a crusty old curmugeon. I couldn't do business with him. It's his way or the highway.

I think all his pups are spoken for, but you may be able to get on a list.

I concur, he made me furious the first and only time I ever visited his kennel (I was a ride along), but the pup we picked up that day turned out to be one of the very best birddogs I have ever been around. And I have been around a few.

This is where mine came from. Could not be happier. She is a hunting machine, she even tracked a wounded deer for me at 11 months. Charlie will place you with the right dog if your willing to listen and wait. Your in WF, I wouldn't consider any other kennel if he is willing to get you a pup.

I have a 1 year old GSP that's an awesome family dog and is supposed to be a great hunter (based on his pedigree). He is back at the breeder being trained right now so I can't testify to the training yet but have spoken with others who have had their dog trained by this breeder and they swore by him.
