I realize I am a grown man, armed. But my lease situation is I am usually the only who goes and spends the night.

I get a little bored after the sun goes down, have a fire and cook dinner. My mind starts playing tricks on me, hearing things. This happen to anyone else?

Only afraid people answer please. I'm not uneasy about meth tweakers or zombies, mainly little girl ghost.

When I bow hunt on Ft Hood I get there about 2 hours before daylight so I can walk to my blind and let things settle down before daylight. You can't have a handgun for a sidearm on Ft Hood and there have been a few times when I was way out in the boonies and it was very dark and my mind tried to wander. Never actually was scared just a weird feeling like I was being watched and was basically helpless with just a bow in the dark.

Also when I was in Afghanistan this last time we did 90% of our foot patrols at night so when I first came back I was kind of uneasy in the woods at night. I guess my senses were so keen I was hearing every single noise stopping and looking around haha.

It's normal. Humans are not normally solitary creatures. It is instinctive to be hyper-vigilant when you are alone in an unusual environment. My guess is that the unease gets better if you've been there a couple/few days.

I have spirits/ghosts where I hunt

makes the hair on your neck and arms stand up

several friends reported the same feeling when I let them
hunt in the canyon

if you think you're being followed or watched... probably
a spirit is trying to communicate with you and you may
be a sensitive

I get the willies and try to avoid certain spots when I am alone

I have a habit of taking embarrassing pics of a buddy of mine. I took this one at our lease in East Texas. I didn't see anything behind him when I took it, but it was there in the pic when we looked at it later. Look between the campers.

I was walking around looking for hogs in Erath county a few months ago I heard what I thought sounded like a Mountain Lion scream. Kind of freaked me out for a second but I got over it and didn't get eaten.

Not scared of much, but it's no fun camping alone. At least it isn't for me.

back when we used to eat housecats we marinated them in louisiana hot sauce and soy sauce then season them with lemon pepper........then onto the grill slow cooking them 3 hours........excellent folded in tortillas and pico de gallo----Newgulf

My lease is in West Tx so the only thing I really worry about is rattle snakes. Black Widows, brown recluse. Lether gloves and Chippewa boots make me feel good though

Yep, setting in a pop up blind around 12:30 am hunten hogs (by myself of course). Heard a noise behind me, dark as hell, shifting of rocks then a slow low growl. Had 45, 308 & 223 with me. Still stayed in blind for another 20-30 minutes.

My take of ghosts, spirits, etc. if it can put its hands on me or hurt me, I can do the same to it. Don't worry me that much. Tweakes are another story, they are really unpredictable.

I'm very alert, all senses running 100%.

But I am not afraid. I will fear no evil, and I am the most lethal predator on the continent.

Chippewas and a shovel and I am good. Was alone a couple weeks ago and the copperheads were attacking but I won and took 3 of their army out. Delayed my dinner a bit.

Not afraid, but I was pretty unamused last year when I got yipped at in the dark by a couple of coyotes while I was walking to my blind.

I had a couple of "run ins" being alone the first year on our lease in stephens county. id already eaten supper and crawled in bed for the night, just watching lonesome dove. when at around 930 I hear a banging on my cabin door. our lease is located 15 miles from anything, so there isn't normally much activity around. this being the first year out there, I was a little jump. I grab my rifle and go to the door ready to unleash the beast on a meth head. open the door, its the guys from the lease next to us just stopping by to have a beer. later than year, im in my cabin again killing time between the morning and evening hunt when I hear a truck pull up and doors close. again, grab the rifle and go to meet meth head. turns out this time it was the people from census investigating if anyone was living in a run down old camper trailer on our lease (no one was, at the time at least)I don't get nervous in the woods by myself, I sometimes get jumpy at camp though.

I actually enjoy the silence and peace and quiet when out alone. I'm usually carrying a pistol on the hip and a rifle slung over my shoulder, so I think I've got that part covered. But these days my son is generally with me.

There is nothing in Texas that poses much of a threat - day or night. Even the weather 360 days out of the year. Worst risks are falling out of a treestand (always hook in) or twisting an ankle. Way, way down on the list is a snakebite. Ain't no hog or coyote gonna getcha.

You are at about 500x more risk driving to your lease than being alone at your lease. Just relax and enjoy being there. That's why you have it in the first place. up

I don't get scared, but I have definitely gotten boogered a few times...

Back when I was in college, before every semester I would buy all of my books about a week early and head up to the ranch for a few days with just me and the dogs. Some times I would be there for three days and sometimes for the whole week. Just depended upon my mood. I would sometimes read over the highlights of the textbooks preparing myself for the semester and sometimes I wouldn't. Bottom line is the whole point was to get to the ranch and reset before the upcoming semester. I had been there for two days on one trip and it was that right time of year where it was getting pretty warm during the day and cooling off at night. On those days, after it gets dark and the roof (tin) cools down, the roof goes to popping every once in a while. I knew what it was because I had heard it before. But something about it made the hair on the back of my neck stand up and my mind went somewhere I wish it never would have gone and I worked myself into a frenzy. I had pistols on the night stand, rifles leaned up against the foot of the bed, a shotgun leaned up against the headboard haha I kinda freaked out.

The next morning (after a horrible nights sleep) I quickly made my breakfast and loaded my stuff and hightailed it down the road! That was the last time I made one of those trips. I have stayed at the ranch by myself a few times since then but I haven't ever gone up there for a lonesome retreat again. It is funny how much of a difference it makes even just having my 8 and 4 year olds with me verses being alone in the dark!!

Trailing a wounded 10 point many years ago, I fell off a big rock. Turned my ankle, but I was still able to walk, and I was a long way from where I started blood trailing. So, I worry about getting hurt and being alone.
