Last Sat I was enjoying a beautiful day in Montague county eating turkey burger at lunch in camp when I noticed 2 large birds in the road to camp about 100 yards away. Low and behold it was turkey and not the normal crow. I have never seen a turkey anywhere near camp but we are over a mile from the front gate. We hunt a mile away normally towards the creek. I decide to put my eating on hold and go put a camo shirt on just in case there was a tom. I got take a peek again and low and behold one is in full strut and it is a tom so I needed to go after him. I got my stuff and walk about the same distance below them and setup. I call for about 5 minutes and get no response. The grass has gotten rediculously high everywhere so no wonder they were on the road. I pop out on the road where they were but don't see them so I walk a bit inside the mesquites and look out again and see them 100 yards further at the turn where it meets our neighbors high fence and an inside gate. I keep going and calling some but no way am I pulling him off the hen. I get within 30 yards of the turn and peaking for any sign of them and see the hen so I setup and then the tom pops out from behind a horse trailer in strut. I think the wind helped me get this close to them. I dropped him at 30 yards when he turned sideways. First time to chase a turkey (always called them in) but it was fun none the less. Took about 30 minutes from time spotted to shot. I didn't really plan to try and hunt them as they had stopped gobbling except on the roost. Also got a big boar and 3 copperheads so a good weekend.

Guess eating a turkey burger brought me luck. That's it in the background.

You should see a turkey with a mouse trap stuck to its beak running around in circles. grin
