I see cabelas has the savage 10t on sale for $530. I have a savage 16 that I really like. I have plenty of 150gr ammo for it. I've also thought about getting a vanguard 2. Ok, question is do I get the 10t and if so which caliber. 308 or creedmore. Does the 10t shoot 150gr good

What caliber is your 16? I'm assuming it's a 308...either way I say don't get another one of the same caliber, unless your not happy with your current rifle.

"Beware the man who only has one gun. He probably knows how to use it!"
I'm lost. If you have a rifle you like, why change? And it's "Does the 10t shoot 150gr well."

The 16 is a 308. I'm looking to get another rifle that my son can call his. I do like my 308 and have plenty of ammo for it. The 6.5 creedmore I have heard nothing but good reviews on. It's just something I would have to buy ammo for. I want a solid gun to give to him. Sorry about not discribing my concerns better. I was at my fiancées house.

If 6.5 doesn't catch on like they hope ammo may not be as accessible as 308

No issue with getting another .308. Go for it, ammo is the deal maker for me

If 6.5 doesn't catch on like they hope ammo may not be as accessible as 308 I wonder if big oil worried if diesel fuel was going to catch on? OP, get the 6.5 Creedmoor. You and your son will love it. I've got lots of short action cartridges, and if I had to get down to only one, it would be my 6.5 Creedmoor.

I have a 10T in 308. You will definitely like the gun and if you already have a 308 you should at least consider the 6.5.
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.

I wonder if Glock thought the .45GAP was gonna catch on.. or if TC thought the 30TC was going to be popular. Just joking. The other two were pointless from the start. OP, Get a different caliber than the one you already have. No sense in buying essentially the same thing.

They can likely find a load that both guns shoot well, which means one ammo type, not two. Also, .308 is cheaper than 6.5. Midway has 129 .308 loads, 9 6.5 loads-much more versatility. .308 is more widely available too if they find themselves short on ammo in a remote location.

My son is 23, and likes my savage 16 308. He has a ruger 243. That is why I'm considering a 308. I'll check out the ruger American predator. Thanks to all for the insight

Never said it had to be a 6.5.

Thanks to all for the insight Then why ask the forum? That's a valid reason for having two rifles chambered the same. Forgetting ammo is always lost on me. Zero times have I forgot ammo. Maybe it's because I use very specific hand loads. And/ or maybe I know a firearm is nothing more than a poor club without ammo.

After I read a ton of glowing reviews on the Ruger American, I went to check some out. I picked up 4. All 4 had nasty machining marks on the action, the action felt gritty, and the balance was horribly off- barrel heavy. Plus the stock was super cheapo in my opinion. I told the clerk how underwhelmed I was, and he preceded to tell me that he had 3 in different calibers and they could all split the hairs of a fly, flying at 1789 yards. Or something like that.

Just because all the hype I've heard about the American I looked at a few at cabelas. Two words sum up my review, cheap junk... the action is terrible, the play between the barrel and stock is ridiculous, terrible feel in the hand... I won a Howa 1500 Hogue molded over stock a couple months ago. The howa is less expensive (389$-409) and a much much better built gun, for a cheap gun... I just wonder what all the ruger american die hards are comparing them to?
