I was actually using a .270 Browning High Wall with a Federal 150 grain nosler partition. Some may think it is a light load, but I believe it is more shot placement and experience for the shooter. The first shot (hard quartering to) took him in the neck, shoulder, lung area and dropped him. We knew because the animal is so tough that it was not over. It was so dark however, that when we go to where he dropped, he had gotten up and moved away approximately 80 yards. We could tell he was sick and hit hard, but I didn't chance it. The second shot (hard quartering away) passed thru the gut and took out his left shoulder. He turned right and the third shot took him high in the right shoulder and passed thru to the neck bone. Three was all he could carry. All shots were free hand from within 100 yards. Not one single bullet passed thru.

Congrats! Heck of a Nilgai. That will make for some great eating. Made me miss my favorite hunting partner too..... Dad. Glad you still have yours to enjoy.

Nilgai hunting is awesome! These animals are tough lucky you found him using a .270, I saw 1 take 5 well placed shots from a .338 win mag before finally going down for good.
