Most are sleeping here on the duck forum but whats everybody up too? Me, I bought a aluminum boat fixer upper in late Jan and its ready for painting. Got a new backwater longtail to put on it when its ready. Very exited to use it this fall. As alot of you know my best friend had a accident with my bass boat on fork.....motor runs like a champ again but body of boat needs lots of work. He's on it. I just got some inflatable dolls...oops I meant decoys to use this fall. Lighten the load up some from my avians x's. And with this hail in dfw this year were busy as bees in my work. Oh, got my banded woody and mallard back from Avian arts taxidermy a couple weeks ago. SWEEEEEEET!

So, whats up everyone?

same ole thing. building more blinds, spraying a lot of undesirables, getting ponds drained, discing a few to see what kind of plant response I get, building a couple levees, prepping ground to get rice planted mid may to late june. always something to do, getting this stuff done while running crawfish traps in between

1. Building a permanent blind on my private land.
2. Working a dog.
3. Planted sunflower seeds and will order the millets soon.
4. Analyzing our kill totals and what blinds were most productive at my duck club.
5. Killing the ridiculous amounts of snakes that keep popping up around me.
6. Coaching little league.

I need to learn to blow a goose call as well, but right now it sounds just like a kazoo.

The boat as it was when I bought it

Stripping begins. The wood behind the blue aluminum on transom was rotted some.

The trailer

The new improved trailer. I replaced the tongue with a longer piece. replaced the 1-7/8" coupler with a 2' one. New leaf springs. Axle was good. New winch. Not shown are side rails I installed. Also this trailer has the detach point where the tongue meets the main frame. I can pull a pin and the frame lifts up so the boat can be launched at unorthodox "ramps"

I welded steps on the rear for ease in getting in and out. New deck welded in with a new latch lid.

Switch panel plate is on the rear left in this pic. All wood is gone in the transom and new aluminum is welded in to beef it up. Also I welded plates over the 2 v crimps on the sides so the wire and fuel line will be hidden.

new heavy duty deck with the lid. The base coat is on. It will be Nat Gear camo pattern. Gator Glide is going on the bottom this weekend and then I will stencil in the camo

The horse is still in the stall. Backwater 23 lite longtail. Will post more pics as it progresses. I'm in the roofing business here in DFW and the hail has us busy as bees.

Boat is 15/40 in size. I paid $1,400 for boat/trailer and did not want the motor that was on it. I'll probably use it a couple years then get the itch for something bigger and more stronger, meaner and faster. But the areas I want to use it for it should be a good fit. Will not hunt out of it unless divers are on the main lake like i see sometimes. Just a transporter for 2-3 guys and maybe a 4th if its calm and short.

I plan on mounting straps on the sides for gun holders (a great tip I got here or another forum) . All life jackets and throw able and small tool box will fit in the small front storage. Gas tank under the deck up front. Seats are coolers from academy. They are dry storage/seats all in one. Push pole will ride on one side of the boat up on the rail and will be secured with a tie down strap. I'm mounting a light bar up on the deck but may regret it from some of the reviews I've read. But I'll give it a whirl. Bilge and small battery in the rear.

Wow, I have that exact same boat. Same size and everything. Brand is Fisher I think???

I always liked it because the bench seats would slide back and forth. I removed one out of mine and left the other in. I did a homemade camo job and put a 23hp longtail on mine and it has served me well.

Kinda neat to see

Yes its an old fisher! I may go back to a bench seat but I like the idea of coolers so we can use as dry storage. I'm keeping weight to a min in this.

Lots of progress. Practically finished! Gator glide with some gator base under it.

[img:left]http://[/img]
First phase of the nat gear camo.

[img:left]http://[/img]
second phase.

rigging the boat out.

Motor is on!

All finished up. Things moved pretty fast once I got the base coat of paint on the boat. Now I can have my side yard back.

Anybody have some ideas on a rubber type grip for my grab bar? Its 1.5" conduit my son welded up for me. I'd like to close the end off more than anything. Also I fired up the motor today for the first time. Ran smooth. But I did notice the throttle cable curls around and touches the exhaust. It looks like it melted it a little where it touched it. Any ideas on this? Looking at it I'm not sure there is enough to re rout it and still reach where it connects to the throttle lever.

You could use some type of motorcycle grip.
