My dealer should receive the stamp for my 2nd suppressor, an SAS barricade soon. I'm trying to decide which rifles to chop and thread. I have a nice Ruger m77 22-250 with a 24" shilen barrel and I'm debating whether I'd like it chopped to 20 for the can. Anyone else done this? Think I'll lose 30fps per inch cut off or more?

I already chopped my 243 to 21, so I will for sure run it with the can before I chop anything else. But I'm still would appreciate real world experience with shorter 22-250s.

Mine have always been 24" to the muzzle, suppressor or not.

Just remember, no matter how short you cut it, a .22-250 is still fast.

I had winny 22-250 carbine. The shorter barrel took away the wow factor. Made for a nice youth rifle though

I could leave it as long as possible, thread 1/2" instead I guess. I'd rather do 5/8" and use the new DT can without an adapter, but I'd have to cut 4" to get enough muzzle diameter to thread 5/8" with a good shoulder.

Sounds like 4" less barrel might cost me 150fps though. I'm gonna think on it a while before I do it, I may just leave it like it is. I'm not sure I have to run a can on every rifle I own anyway.

I'll know soon how much MV I lost by chopping my 243 down 3".

My 22-250 has a 22" barrel. Chrono numbers are at the house... Don't remember what they are, but not disappointing. Shoots great, too. I say go for it!

I'm going to build a 22-250 AI and cut it to 20 inches for my suppressor, it should still have velocities near a 24 inch standard 22-250.

My factory Vanguard has 20in barrel. No idea on any of the technical specs and I'm not nearly as good of a shot as the group posted. It works though, go for it! Even without a suppressor, the smaller barrel makes for faster handling in trucks and blinds.

I prefer a 24" barrel for my .22-250's although my current one wears a 22"

I read an article one time stating that if you have a barrel shorter than 22" on a .22-250 all you have is a loud .223 and it kinda stuck with me

Turning it into a loud, inefficient 223 is what I'm afraid of.

Does the noise/muzzle blast bother you at all with your 20" barrel?

No sir, not at all. Noise is very mild, or I'm just used to it. Never notice muzzle blast.

I've seen what a 55 gr soft point out of a 223 can do and what a 55gr soft point out of my gun can do. It does a better job than the 223, for sure (bigger "wound area," lot more clotting and damage in general). confused2
The technical stuff I do not know about at all.

Not really. 22-250 will always be faster than a 223 in equal barrel lengths. Only way I could see this as close would be to compare a 16" 22-250 to a 26" 223.

Half the reason I want a .50 is for the sound.
