A ways away near Cross Plains the land owner where I hunt saw a large black cat, big enough to drag off a hog he had shot. His neighbors have also seen it.
The fish and game biologist swears there is no such thing as a black mountain lion, he suggested it could be a jaguarundi even though outside the range and not near large enough.

It's kinda like UFOs, a person or group of people see them, and someone from the government tells them what they saw is wrong and then tells them what they actually did see. Gotta love it.

To my knowledge, nobody has ever killed our found a dead black mountain lion. I personally do not believe such a creature exists. Only jaguars will sometimes be all black. The second somebody tells me they have seen a black mountain lion, I reclassify them into the category of extreme caution about believe anything else they say.

I always carry a good camera with a telephoto zoom lens, it is repellent for UFOs and crypto critters.

The thing with plausible animals is they could exist but going out and finding one is difficult if not impossible. The Arizona jaguars are a good example, no one has seen one and it took many years to get one on a game camera.
The person who told me he saw a black cat is trustworthy, but one would think with all the game cameras someone would have got a picture of one.

I havent seen one personally but they can be in the area. I live just north of there and my neighbor had one of his horses attacked. Supposedly vet confirmation and it made the newspaper.

Mt lion can be just about anywhere.

I heard recently that there was an attack on a goat over by Azle. Apparently the owner of the goat had a fish and wildlife expert come out and they said it was a cougar/mountain lion.

Thanks,
Olen

I saw a big black cat in my part of the country back about '91. There was no mistaking that it was a cat, & black & its back about waist high, with a tail that seemed like it was 6 foot long. When we got calves out of that pasture the next few weeks, 1 had scratches down it's flank, whatever pawed at it had paws way bigger than my hand.

I saw a regular mountain lion 5-6 years ago. I was pretty close (heading into the wind on my 4wheeler) & he crossed the road. It looked just like a lioness on National Geographic, again no mistaking at all what it was. His head was as big as grapefruit, I was maybe 20-25 yds away & got a good look.

I've seen several tracks over the years from big cats. They are out there, but they are hard to see.

I live in the area. I have not seen one, but I've heard there have been several sightings in Parker county between mineral wells and springtown. Did you see one or are you just asking?

I saw one by Gaines Bend on possum kingdom 25 years ago.

I've only seen 2 others and killed them both. One I called in west of Fort Stockton when I was in high school. The other I spotted sitting on rimrock in Terrell county.

There are no "Black mountain lions/Cougars". Nobody with the real life working knowledge( I.E. Wildlife biologist,Zoo keeper, or Professional hunting guide) has ever came forward with any pictorial evidence proving it. The only witnesses are folks like you and me who wouldn't no the difference between a Black Jaguar and a Black panther. Pull up Black Jaguar on google and then hit images. There is your "Black panther"! The Jaguar's old original range before humans got in the way pretty well covers all of the southern most/coastal states. Its not hard to imagine that, as rare as cougar sightings are, a jaguar sighting, let alone a black jaguar sighting would be rare indeed. I'm not saying large black cats don't exist. They obviously do, but we just misidentify them. No harm, no foul!

Pretty sure I'm the only person on the internet who hasn't seen at least half a dozen mountain lions.

I am fairly familiar with that area as I used to office in Weatherford and appraised ranches for the Federal Land Bank 30 years ago. I feel like there are too many folks in the rural areas for a lion to get comfortable. Now, if there is a lion there, it could have been someone's pet and now on the loose. Through the years, I have seen a surprising number of lions in cages, some on large ranches and a few in subdivisions.
Adios,
gary

People that live next door to one of my friends have multiple mountain lions in captivity... one of which was the star "Karen" from the movie Talladega Nights.

I have to add this story, lol ever time i think about it.
Several years ago 3 of us were hunt quail on a lease about 6-7 miles west of Olney. One fri nite at the motel we had several drinks before going to sleep. just after daylite we were leaving town on a narrow blacktop, about a mile from town this large tan cat with a long tail jumped out of the tall grass, hit in the middle of the road then jumped into the tall grass on the other side. NO one said a word, about 1/4 mile down the road the driver said " anyone see anything back there " I said I think i saw a mountain lion. Driver said i think i did too. Guy in the middle wakes up about that time and says yall are crazy. (one of those you had to be there)
