Yep.

Quail hunting is like walking into, and out of a beautiful painting all day long. Gene Hill

I grew up loving the call of the Bob White. Very rare these days. I should release some at the house.

Shoot the pigs Billy, not the birds.

When I was a kid growing up in Wichita County and Archer County, the call was a part of the day morning and night. Miss it.

I have concluded that the Bobwhite Quail is to the Eco-System to what the canary is to the mineshaft. When our eco-system is balanced and all is well with our piece of the world, the quail flourish. I am happy with where it stands right now. The 2015/16 season was a good as it gets for me. I hope this is the start of another golden era that lasts an extended time. What we came out of in the preceding seasons was horrific. Kudos to all the men and women that kept their dogs and hopes up during the down time just for the chance to see it great once again! It really paid off for us.

Probably 50 years ago now, when I was growing up in North Louisiana, there were still a few birds to hunt over there. In the spring time, I would go with my Dad to an old dairy pasture and sit with him in lawn chairs and he would be blowing a snuff can quail whistle to the mating birds at the time. He liked the challenge of seeing how many that he could whistle up in sight to get within 15 yards of him. I didn't have a choice. I had to go with him. He taught me everything I know about dogs and quail. But Daddy always worked harder in the off season getting ready to quail hunt than any man I ever knew. He taught me the different calls and cadences but now I can call better by mouth than I can the snuff can. I guess about this time is when I got the quail hunting disease. I have been paying for it ever since, but I would not trade the times that I have spent in the field for any amount of money. The discipline it takes to quail hunt and the work ethic it requires to own and maintain dogs and keep them sharp, I believe, is what makes me who I am today. Thanks Dad for instilling that in me.

Lord knows we need more young boys in the field with their dads today.

When I hear them at the lease, it is like everything stops and I listen for the return call. Sometimes I'll join in and try to get them going.

They were everywhere in Marshall. Those boogers stopped my heart on many occasion as they flushed around my feet.

That's where my Grandpa and Grandma moved when they quit the farm. On Holley Street 3 blocks from the beach. They lived thru Camille in 1969.

bobcat1, I remember my great-uncle talking playing lot football on a lot, not to far from the house, and this one skinny boy, who couldn't play very good. But he couldn't forget his name. ELVIS. Yep. Part of, HOLY SHAT. LOL!!!
