Mainly a public duck hunter but have a private pond or two that I hunt on in NW Denton. Owner shot this out of it a few days ago. Never would have guessed...its only a 2-3 acre pond. Careful out there....dogs included.

There is an alligator season in Denton county right now. So id say yes.

unless theyre hooked on a line, cornered somehow, have an arrow stuck in them, or around a nest ive yet to see one act aggressively towards people. even when on a nest they typically sit there with their mouth open and make a hissing sound. with all of the rain and flooding happening during breeding season, there will be quite a few spotted in places out of the norm.

A longtime Vizsla owner friend in Florida where my older dog Blaze is from was attacked by an alligator around 6 or 7 years ago. She saw the movement in the water on the bank and called her dog away, but she fell down. The alligator lunged out of the water and grabbed her on her calf, letting go after she poked it in the eye. It was no bigger than the one cactusflyr is holding. But for the most part they want nothing to do with people. They will eat your dogs though.

I've had one come after me when I was a kid. I was cutting around some canals to go play ball in the neighboring neighborhood. I had nearly made it to my destination when I noticed dude basking on the opposite bank. Bastard preceded to come after me and I had to climb a fence to escape. It began to rain rocks immediately afterwards. Animal guy could never catch that guy when he came out. Some good fishing in those canals though.

Another time I had one go between my legs but that is a whole other story.

they can be a dangerous animal, but not everything is the way reality television makes it out to be...go figure. we've taken some bigger gators(10-11'+) out of duck ponds just to play it safe. It, would be a real task to try to eliminate all of them the size of the one pictured. Until last year I think it was, there hadn't been a recorded alligator attack in texas. whenever the one at the marina out of Beaumont happened
