I have been looking at the Ruger America in 300 blackout for a compact deer rifle just wanted to know does anyone have one? If so what kind of groups you getting from the 125 grain bullets and what don't you like about? Thanks for any information.

The cartridge was designed for sub-sonic applications. As a deer round, it's not particularly effective compared to just about anything else, including the 30-30.
If the deer are small and the shots are close though, it will get you by. Lots of deer have been shot with the .300 blackout.
I'd pass on the .300 blk and go for a .243, 260, 7mm-08 or .308 in a compact bolt gun - but that's just me.
You can load down those cartridges if recoil is a big issue - but you cannot 'load up' the .300 blk to a higher power level if you need it.

Nice little rifle seems fairly accurate haven't really sat down and shot groups with it yet just sighted it in and hunted with it last year. My only complaint is its picky on ammo. Won't shoot hornady, light strikes the primers you can recock the bolt and it will shoot it the second trigger pull. I sent it back to ruger and it does the same thing once I got it back. I shoot chads ammo and sig and neither one has issues.

I have the standard in 7mm-08 and really like it. Yes, it's a $300 gun, but it's extremely accurate. If you like it, buy it.

Great rifle, own one, likes 200gr smk subs, 130gr and 110 noslers as well as vmaxs with a wide variety of powder. WW296, H110, LIL GUN, and Imr 4227

Have 2 Ruger American Predators. 308 is 38inches over all 22-250 is 42 inches both will shoot touching holes at 100yds if i do my part have vortex scopes on both. I would not expect a $2000.00 rifle to do better
when the going gets really tough, I sit down and rest

Been eyeing the ranch rifle myself for about a year now. Have not heard one bad thing about them and I have been looking. People do seem to have issues with the plastic mag though, some loads don't feed correctly. one video on youtube they had that problem and Ruger sent out a new Mag for free. One of these days...
Also looking at the American compact in 7mm-08. only 3/4 an inch longer overall
