Anybody have or had a dog with them. Rescued dog we have about 12 years old, started having them about a year ago. She's on Levetiracetam but still goes though an occasional bout. Had a bad one last night. Takes meds 3 times a day about 2000 mg. total. Gonna take her back in and have a complete blood work done. Any other suggestions? Started out as focal and has turned into full blown Grand Mal. Devastating to watch. She is a inside doggie and a sweetheart.

We had a dog that started having them at 8years old. Some were pretty bad. The vet told us if he had a bad one again it could kill him. He put him on phenobarbitol which is some pretty narly stuff but once he adjusted to it, never had another seizure. It was cheap too, about $20 a month and he lived to be 16. May be something to ask your vet about. Also, after he has a seizure give him some sugar water, helps them recover faster.

Our lab had some pretty severe seizures - they were so bad that it ended Ace's hunting career early. He ended up on phenobarb. as well. Like cspruce said, not too expensive and it wiped Ace out until he got used to, too. Plus side to phenobarbitol was that we could get refills for the dog at Walgreens or CVS.

I have never seen a human go through a seizure and don't want to; watching a dog do it is bad enough. Best of luck.

Buddy of mine had a lab that would have seizures. Not pleasant to watch.

Update on my Beautiful Penny. She had been on levetiracetam (different doses) since she started having them about a year and a half ago. Started as Focal and the last 6 months went to full Grand Mall about once every 2 weeks. Full Blown Blood tests several times found nothing. The last 2 weeks they came in clusters. Vet changed to phenobarbital about 3 weeks ago to try and help but no joy. She had 3 bad ones yesterday and as always came out of them like the puppy she thought she was and was going to call the vet out last evening but didn't. The last at 5 am this morning took her out with me holding her head. I was fortunate to be able to be around Her 24-7 and that was a blessing. Kept trying to save her cause she was a keeper. Rest in Peace Pen!

Thanks for the condolences Folks. As everybody knows, these Guys are our family and we have to look out for them. Have our 14 and a half year old Dane/Boxer cross (Hopper) under my feet as I type and know the Big Boy will be next. Thanks again.

Sorry for your loss, glens. I still get misty eyed thinking about the dogs I had growing up, they never leave you -- but I'd have it no other way. Very little in this world compares to that of a good dog. My thoughts and prayers with you and your family

Saw the seizures in a family dog, try to foresee them and either prevent or lessen the impact. Finally had her put down last month.

Please research the side effects of vaccines, in particular the rabies. There are supplements you can give to offset the side effects. That's all I want to say about it for fear of the veterinarians trying to neuter me.
