I've had my high octane red dog through Wayne's course twice. Once at 8 mos. and the 2nd at 3 yrs. The last time he tried to climb up the lead rope to tag Wayne after getting zapped. I'll tell you, that boy remembers! This dog I have spent a lot of time in working him through distractions and still having to pay attention to me. The cars, people, dogs, new scents, etc. have had no impact on his ability to put 2 and 2 together and get the gist of the program. As long as he either sees or smells a snake he will not go near it...and that includes a stretched out garden hose sometimes.
I found Wayne very approachable as far as questions and concerns, and don't really see a need for flyers or extra helpers. This doesn't seem like rocket science to me. The dog gets near something you don't want him to and you smoke his butt. I'm an Amish trainer, so it's not like my dog even knows what an ecollar is.
And lastly, it's great fun to see and visit w/some folks you haven't seen in awhile or only know through THF. I also like to see what reactions other dogs have to the training. Your dog was a very good student LOl. Thank you for the kind words. It is a pretty neat thing to remember key things about people's dogs. Stinkbelly's dog Izzy remembers the course very well. I don't even remember when she was trained last. She alerted to a snake on their path when on a hike one time. It is these and other moments that make me feel like I have accomplished something worthwhile on this earth.

Having this right before dove season may save a few dogs lives. Great timing.

First year I took my dog to see Wayne she touched her nose to the snake and as it struck Wayne struck her...she stretched out and jumped as high as I'd seen her ever jump...and unfortunately for her she ran over to the other snake that was rattling and Wayne got her again. She got hammered twice on one go round. Wayne explained exactly why he got her the second time and what exactly was going on. Told me to take her for a little walk and let her calm down because she saw sparky Her and I did and when we came back you could tell she didn't want any part of those snakes. It was really eye opening to me on the first snake, that would've been an automatic trip to the vet and a gamble if she had made it. Scary to be honest. Flash forward a year later I took her to see Wayne again. She walked within about 3 ft of the snake and was like oh crap I gotta get the heck out of here...she ran away from the snake enough that she gave Wayne a rope strawberry on the back of his leg. He then explained that he normally doesn't like to get a dog there without hitting them once but felt like she understood and he actually remembered exactly what had happened with the two hits right in a row the previous year. He then asked me, "I'll get her if you want me to but I think she's got it...but it's your call". I was satisfied and to this day she isn't a fan of snakes....unless you shoot one, she wants to go get anything that is shot and bring it to me. I'm not saying Wayne's way is the only way...but I am telling you his way works. Thanks Wayne!

Gunther, I am in Tyler as well and we make the drive over to Weatherford to get our in his clinic. I took Ruby who was just under 6 months, in heat, and never had an e-collar used on her yet... so I was pretty nervous. But Wayne did a great job and Ruby never showed any ill-effects from the e-collar even though it was her first experience. We took her back the next year and you could see the difference in when she approached the snakes. My sister-in-law has a new golden retriever this year and she will be seeing Wayne for the first time this summer. I highly recommend it to every one. I talked with my vet who loves the idea and said he wished all of his non-hunting pet owners would take their dogs. He said he has seen too many little yappy dogs stick there nose to investigate and get a face full of a copperhead not to live past the experience.

My dog and I walked up on a five foot rattler yesterday. I was able to call her back and the snake was more concerned with leaving than biting so all is well but it could have been really bad, really fast. She won't be going back to the lease until after the training.

When is the Weatherford Clinic? Did I miss it? I looked for dates on the website but was having issues with it.

Darn, I have two dogs that I need to get in a clinic. I'm not available the weekend of the 7th due to being out of town on vacation. I'll have to catch up some other time.
