Not unless you are using a burning laser, which laser bore sights are night.
The Thor HD is a thermal sight.

The Thor HD is a thermal sight. I thought lasers all generated some degree of heat depending on the power level of the laser. But I tried in my hallway to get a rough zero & to learn how to zero this scope. but can't see the laser & everything is bright & warm in the house. Also: I have & hunted with NV scopes, but this is my first Thermal and I may ask what some consider stupid questions- Sorry working on my learning curve

Get a pack of hand warmers and target those or anything that will reflect/get hot from the sun. Also either do it in the shade or have something to cover yourself with. I had a hell of time sighting in a FLIR thermal scope a few weeks ago in the sun until I covered my head/scope with a black trash bag.

Thanks Charlie Going to talk Mama into heading to the lease in Cisco ( its most likely muddy as heck) even if I can't get all the way back to my pig area I can at least get it sighted in and maybe whack some rabbits . I have a Savage 93R 17HMR I just picked up and it needs sighted in also

I thought lasers all generated some degree of heat depending on the power level of the laser. Sure, and if you have a burning laser, you are good to go. I think you would find that all light conveys a bit of heat energy, not just lasers. However, what is or is not detectable is the real issue and the 1/1000th of a degree difference a bore sight laser might be able to heat a surface after a while just is not detectable with the technology we are using. I believe you will find that you can convey more energy to the wall by touching your finger to it for a couple of seconds than your laser bore sight will after minutes. --------------- You can use all manner of things for sighting in from handwarmers to reflective tape to duct tape to steel targets (my favorite as I have them and the sun heats them) to even colored paper targets on a hot day were the dark area of the paper heats up differently than the light areas. Some people use cold instead of heat and use ice or plastic bottles of frozen water.

You can use empty brass as well. They stick right into cardboard and you can just put a lighter under one for a few seconds to heat it up. It will show up no problem and do so for a while

From what I'm reading, they shipped a brand new unit before they even received the old unit? Interesting hetman's example will undoubtedly be unique as a first poster with the first unit on a major forum. ATN does not make a policy out of swapping out units and certainly not before they have the other in hand. This is unusually good CS and there is no reason to expect such CS will continue with other users. Actually they consistently send new units out before the old units are shipped back. They are an awesome company and that is the main reason I got involved with becoming an authorized dealer. That and I love their product.

Since you love them so good and are an authorized dealer and said your thermal unit was shipped last week is there any chance you might post some videos of the unit in action? Thanks in advance as good video might help you sell some units.

What were the environmental stats (temp/humidity/etc).
That video looked subpar but perhaps it was just simply the weather.
Not basing everything on 1 video either so thanks for sharing.
Recoil effects on sensor and screen is really something a bunch would be interested in, doesn't have to be hunting can be range time.
308 and higher cal is the real test

I am glad someone posted a video for ya'll . because I don't have a hunting video yet. got to cisco Friday night and got rained out . Saturday we hunted all day & I did shoot a pig just not with my 223/Thor setup. Saturday afternoon we hunted again and that's when I shot a 125lb sow with my new Savage 93 R 17HMR , and by the time we got to camp cleaned pig and ate dinner in was 10:30 -11pm. I went out trying to sight in the scope and I was having trouble at 100 yards - I guess the hand warmers I had were old and did not seem to generate enough heat( they were barley warm to the touch) by the time I figured out to get a propane heater and warm a small piece of metal it was getting too late & did not want to keep the lease camp awake with a 223 booming. I am not sure but the humidity seemed to be affecting what I was seeing with the scope . its my first thermal so I am going thru a learning phase. I will go back next weekend buy the humidity will still be very high. I do have some pics I took with the scope will download them this week and see what I have to post. here was my 1st pig shot with a 17HMR I bought from a friend on Thursday 308 case - 223 case - loaded 17hmr w/17grain bullet @ 2650fps

How many non-working FB links are you going to post? This is the 2nd one of the thread, LOL. It is better, but the dog is ONLY 5 yards away. At that distance, it should not nothing short of amazing. It tells hunters NOTHING about the hunting capability of the scope.

Either that is one long barrel or the scope grabs a little more field of view than is needed...seeing the barrel in the view like that video shows is a little too much for me at least. I think the initial videos are good to show what the scope is capable of, and waiting for someone on this forum to show what it looks like in real life hunting circumstances (the video above either was shot in October of this past year or the dates were way off, hard ot tell, but I don't know who that hunter is and the video itself gives very little data) as well as the approx. range to animals, humidity level and temp at time of hunt are huge factors when dealing with thermal. Once we get these initial videos on the forum, then we can start doing comparison videos with other platforms side by side at the same targets...those are the most beneficial to show the realistic expectations of any given platform.

I also noticed a delay between the report of the rifle and the video starting. Did I miss something?
Not withstanding Texas Buckeye's input above, it actually looks pretty good in that video. We know it's a 384 core. Any other specs available?

Video as promised. I was not sure of the horizontal white line that ran across the ATN's display? Dead pixels or a F/W issue?
