I have been considering getting a Havalon Baracuta mostly for filleting fish. It's the bigger version of the Piranta and I would prefer the bigger size of the Baracuta. But if I get one, I will probably get the blades for boning also so that I can use it for both hunting and fishing. Anyone out there have experience with them, pro or con?

Thanks!

Great Knife! Had the smaller one and was able to borrow the Barracuda version, liked it much better. More cutting edge takes fewer strokes when skinning or quartering.

I have the smaller one. I liked it alot for work in the field. But I use dexter-russell for the majority of the work after the field

Thanks for the feedback so far. I am looking at it more as a fillet knife than a skinner, but with the boning blades it might work for deer processing in the field where I don't have to worry about sharpening....just pop on a new blade.

Giving it a shot. Just ordered the Baracuta Edge with extra fillet and boning blades. I've got a salt water fishing trip planned for the week of May 16 and will hopefully catch plenty of speckled trout to experiment on.

Got the Edge today. Very sharp! Now I need some fish to fillet or some meat to cut!!

I really like mine. For me I prefer the boning blade. You will find the blade is to short for cleaning big trout, reds and drum. So make sure to take you long blade filet knife with you. I pretty much lost mine to my wife as she uses it to clean the red meat off the filets. So buy two if your smart.

Also, I found that if you strop your new blades they we stay sharp longer. One final point, be sure to wear protective gloves as if you bump into the edge it will leave a scar. I prefer the Kevlar gloves over chain link gloves.

Caught 22 trout and 3 keeper drum, so I filleted 25 fish with the Havalon. Worked great since most were in the 15-17 range.
