changing things up on my ccw. Im going to the glock 19, but trying to determine if there is an advantage either way on gen 3 or 4. I like the grip that the gen 3 has, the gen 4 standard grip is ok but I really have no need for the other back straps. Ive never had a real issue getting to the mag release, so this isn't an issue either. is the guide rode that big of a deal? someone also told me that the finish is more durable on the gen 4.. I have also heard that the gen 4 trigger is not as good as the gen 3... only marginally though. and then theres the price, the gen 3 is considerably less. think I've pretty much made up my mind that the gen 3 is the way to go. just looking for input if theres something that I'm missing.

There's nothing wrong with choosing the Gen 3 over a Gen 4.
A Gen 3 G19 is a great choice for CCW and to some, the CCW handgun.
Spend the cost difference on ammo. Dry fire, dry fire and then dry fire some more. Learn the trigger.
Once you've vetted the 19, carry it confidently knowing it will more than likely outlast you in its stock form.

Ive owned and shot, carried both and only own Gen 4s now. The Gen 4 without any backstraps fits my hands perfectly. Plus i prefer the texturing of the grips much better.

You can run a gen 3 trigger bar in a gen 4. I carry a gen 4 G26 with a Glock Kraft tactical trigger and a NP3 coated gen 3 trigger bar. As far as I know, the trigger bar is the main thing that they changed in the trigger assembly from gen 3 to gen 4.

I wouldn't base your decision on price. Base it on which model fits you better.
One other thing to consider....I believe Gen3 only comes with 2 mags and Gen4 comes with 3 mags.

I don't own Glocks but sell them at work. I prefer the Gen 4 because the mag release is quite a bit larger than the one on the Gen 3. Other than that it would be a toss-up for me.

I like the Gen 4s myself, just because of the versatility of the back-straps. I love the fact that the Gen 4 backstraps have the beavertail build in. I have had slide-bite from high-gripping the Gen 3s. I still have a Gen 3 G19 and have no intention of "upgrading." It is a great pistol.
I carried a G23 and G19 concealed for a bunch of years. For me, at least, it is a bit thick and heavy for comfortable all day/everyday carry. It's possible, I did it, but have been MUCH happier with the Shield as a daily/go anywhere gun. My G19 is now my nightstand/truck gun.

Gen 3 might be better in 9mm. They beefed up the recoil spring assimbly in the gen 4 to improve reliabilty with the 40 s&w round.
