Recently we burned some brush and the next day I found this laying in the middle of the burn pile. It is egg shaped and very smooth and the interesting thing is that it FLOATS in a glass of water! It feels lighter than it should be but has a very hard exterior.

Any ideas on what it is?

Fossilized moose shyte:

Probably about 10,000 years old as this is the last time a moose was spotted in Texas. roflmao

In reality it sure looks like an egg to me.

Pretty darn cool whatever it turns out to be up If you go on the Perot Museum of science you can send in a picture and information on it and they should be able to tell you what it is or direct you elsewhere.

I will bet some one had a Chicken coop there or around there at one time, snake may have eaten a "starter egg" or someone may have thrown it there, either way, I am betting it's a "starter egg" for chickens. The discoloration is from the burn and age I would presume. 2cents cowboy

This seems very logical.

It certainly has an egg shape, but fossilized eggs are pretty rare and a 'surface find' would be even rarer.

Pretty cool...whatever it is.

Thank you for all of the responses so far, I may take it to a geologist at UTA later this week to put my mind at ease.

Quick search shows a wide variety of started eggs from plastic, wood and ceramic.
