Any of you experienced guys give me hints on spotting the stuff growing in ponds that is so toxic to dogs? Thanks!

I have had bird dogs in this backyard for 40 years and never had any problems. I've had weeds and alge over the same period of time and treated it with various chemicals.

I've never heard of this. I've raised a lot of country dogs. All died of old age.

Never heard of it either, my dogs have drank from some questionable places too but never a problem.
Haven't had it in years but never spit any out. I am a sucker for happy endings and strapped cowboys.

Yep first post. Some call it red algae and some other is more green. Read about it but never seen it. Just wondered if anyone has around here

Thank you and I am always willing to learn. Especially with single malt and cigars in hand I'm not sure they allow drinking and posting on this particular forum. You might want to take a look at the Off Topic forum. They have a bunch of drunks on there. Introduce yourself over there.

He is talking about blue green algae. Texoma had a problem with it a few years ago. One state park lake in Kansas was being closed to access every summer because of significant blue green algae blooms. It was the reason I was able to get permits to goose hunt there. The wintering goose population was so high that the waste was creating the algae blooms. One way to control it was to open it to permit hunting to cause the geese to winter elseware. http://www.heartlandoutdoors.com/gretchen/story/blue_green_algae_and_hunting_dogs
