I have an old IRP Super Cooler "Outback" series cooler that I purchased about 20 years ago. At that time it was the first serious cooler (that I knew of) that was specifically made for hunters and fisherman. This was before the Yeti rage. I like it because it is very well made and also because it was made right here in the USA by "Iowa Rotocast Products". It has a metal faucet to drain it, stainless cable to keep the lid from opening too far, a full stainless piano hinged lid, built in cutting board, metal latches, and molded in handles. It has been on numerous hunting and fishing trips with me over the past 2 decades (Colorado, New Mexico, West Texas, Kansas, Louisiana, South Texas etc.) I have probably aged 50 deer in it (add ice, drain bloody water for 10-12 days). In short, I LOVE THIS COOLER. A few weeks ago, some buddies and I went offshore fishing in Lousianna and brought home some Tuna and Redfish. After putting the Tuna on the freezer, I left my IRP Super Cooler open to get the fishy smell out. That night, we got some serious wind and I found my cooler the next morning blown across my yard. In the process of getting tossed around with it's lid open, several of the rivets holding the hinge were broken and the lid was very wobbly. Needless to say, I was heartbroken. When I find something I really like, I hold on to it. That cooler has become a very important component of my hunting and fishing gear. I examined it closely and tried to decide how I could "fix" it so that I would still be happy with it. On a whim, I decided to call IRP. After talking with them I was told that they are now making coolers under the manufacturer name "Grizzly Coolers". They are still made in the USA. After describing my dilemma , the IRP operator told me that there were still a couple of employees with Grizzly that were around when my IRP Outback was made. She then connected me with Isiac. I described my situation to Isiac and he told me that he remembered the exact types of rivets that were used in the mfg. process. He then proceeded to tell me that he would speak with Curt to see if they still had any lying around. I left my phone number. A couple if days later I received a call from Isiac who told me that Curt had gathered up several of the rivets that were used to build my cooler and that he would send them to me along with a new rivet gun. All I needed to do was pay a small shipping fee ($10) The then took his time and described to me that I would need to poke the old rivet stub in and let it fall in the void between the inner and outer walls of the cooler before installing the new rivets. 5 days later a package arrived on my doorstep with a new rivet gun, and a small ziplock bag containing 20-30 of the EXACT rivets I needed plus a properly sized drill bit in case any of the broken ones had to be drilled out. I followed Isiac's instructions and I am proud to report that my old friend is back to its old self 100% fixed and fully functional. This entire write up was done in order to give a GREAT BIG SHOUT OUT to a great American company with great employees. The folks at IRP (now Grizzly Coolers) bent over backward and went out of their way to give the very best customer service that I could have asked for. I dare you to get this kind of customer service with overseas companies. The next time I need a hunting /fishing cooler it's going to be a GRIZZLY COOLER. I would encourage you to do the same!!!!

That's great to know. I have that exact same cooler, except mine is black. My boss gave it to me years ago.

Great story! Had a similar situation with Bad Boy Mowers. Without all the details, I called them up about a situation, they pulled the lead engine installer off the production line and he walked me through step by step for 30 minutes to do a repair.

Just a quick tip on how to get the "fishy smell" out. Fill the cooler about 1/4 full with clear, fresh, water, and a cap full of your favorite dishwashing soap. Now add 1/4 cup of bleach and scrub all internal surfaces with an old sponge. Rinse repeatedly until you are sure all bleach and soap has been removed. It will smell fresher than the day it was made, and will be cleaner too.

Rivet gun is worth more than they charged IMO, I'd say that is some great customer service.

When I decided to get serious about coolers I too got an IRP cooler. IRP was the first company I found that had coolers I felt could withstand the rigors of hardcore use. Mine is one of their old 120qt coolers designed for fishing boats. It has rounded corners, with the same construction as yours, only mine is gray in color. It has the internal cutting board, with a slot on the lid to put it. It also has cup holders in the lid. It's drain is a little different than yours. It has a two inch drain plug that is massive. The thickness on mine is a lot thicker too. It's massive. In some spots it has a full 8" of thickness(in the corners). And, it is VERY heavy. It goes with me on hunting trips and fishing trips where I expect to be gone several days, and I expect to fill it with game and fish. The ice seems to freeze into a solid block in it. So, I'm always confident that once I have game in it iced down I have no worries about it until I get home. They are FANTASTICALLY made coolers, with well thought out designs. I love mine, but it's not for wimps. Mine takes two full grown men to carry it when full. I'm sure glad to hear of their customer service. I've had mine a little over ten years, and I don't think I'll ever need their customer service. I'm glad to know it's there though, if ever needed.
Thanks,
Marty

A really great story. And a great commentary on the wonderful folks who work there. Hope they are doing the companies bidding as a policy as it sure isn't that hard to make a loyal customer for life. I'm impressed
