I made a deal last year with a guy and got several barrels on a trade. I am wanting to get all of them built this summer (my existing houses are getting pretty bad) and was thinking about going with the K-9 Condo barrel kits, If I buy 5 I get one free (if ordered directly from them) it just so happens that I need 6. But wanted to see if any of the dog people on here have any experience with them before I drop $600 on dog houses. I think they will be worth it, and with Cedar or Pine shavings, should stay pretty warm in winter with door closed and I think a few of mine will even enjoy the top deck too. All of the houses I have now were in the $60 to $80 price range and have no door (some had the plastic flap that never lasts). I think these might be worth the money. http://www.k-9kondo.com/k-9-kondo-dog-house-free-shipping/
Haven't had it in years but never spit any out. I am a sucker for happy endings and strapped cowboys.

I use their dog den and love them. I have a friend that used the barrel conversions and he says they work great for all his dogs but one. That dog prefers to eat the barrel and sleep on the ground. Worth the money and time IMO for the amount of dogs you have.

I have 3 that are 10 years old. Bullet proof. Make sure you know exactly what the barrels were used for. Barrels from car washing places are the safest bet

I use heavy black plastic 55 gallon drums in one of my pens and it works fine. I hang them with chain about a foot off the floor. 7-8 years old and look just like it did when I put it up. Bored bird dogs have chewed up and ruined all sorts of shelters for me over the years but they leave these alone. I prefer hanging instead of standing frames for numerous reasons.

Looks good, but a bit pricy. He won't miss the $600 in a year or two, but he will still have great warm dog boxes.

Yes dogs like them. They will rust in a coastal environment after about 10 years or so. You may need to teach the dog to use the doors. They like the decks-- use thicker plywood for the deck, your dogs will spend a lot of time on top of the barrel.

Wife and I have decided we are going to bit the bullet. I have to wait a few more weeks (gotta wait on bounus) but we are doing it.

We have 20 of them in ages ranging anywhere from 3 to 10 years old and all are still in use and operational. As Blanked said, bulletproof is a good description.
