I've never needed a chronograph, any may never again, but am ordering a CDS for my Leupold VX-6. I'd really appreciate anyone that frequents Quail Creek Gun Range that has one letting me get a few readings. I'd be more than happy to cover your range fee.

Why not just use the MOA turrets as they are? The CDS will have major limitations and lock you into to a set trajectory path requiring you to use the same bullet and speed.

quail creek have one you can borrow? You may also need longer ranges just to confirm the dial is correct.

don't want to take a 400 yd shot and hit a critter in the foot

I don't change ammo with this set up. I'll have the original dial if I ever do. It seemed like a great concept. Does it not remove one factor from the equation? As promoted, all I need to know is the range, which I will.

I only need Quail Creek for 100 and chronograph. I have a place that I can shoot farther than I can see.

As long as the elevation you use the gun at does not change dramatically it will work pretty well from my experience setting up a half dozen or so for folks for strictly hunting applications.

If you are wanting to shoot out to 400 yards, it's a simple concept to dial to the number "4" on the turret and pull the trigger. But if you change your environmentals (temp, elevation, pressure, mainly temps) from what the turret was set up for, you can easily be off.

I have had guys call me shooting my custom ammo (ammo tuned to the rifle shooting sub 20 fps extreme spreads) with a "custom turret" and they be upset that they missed a shot at 600 or 800 yards because the "ammo was off". I will run the numbers on their drop data for the "custom turret" and then run the numbers to the exact conditions they were shooting in. I will show them the trajectory differences and explain why. The next question they ask me is "then why do I have a custom turret?". And then my comment is why do you. LEARN MOA OR MILS and dial your come-up to the exact conditions you are shooting in, and forget about the custom turrets!! If you just want to shoot out to 300-400 yards and want to dial to a 3 or a 4 on the turret, it should get you on target close enough to make a kill shot most of the time. But once you shoot enough and understand drop, I often times don't even need to dial for 300 or 400, it's easier to hold it anyway.

You are taking a finely tuned system (system= rifle, ammo, and scope), and educing error into equation with a "custom turret", which is not custom at all. I'm not a fan, and I see a lot of shooters cuss these turrets after using them for some time.

Good perspective. From here, elevation (unless I fall off) won't change, temp should be ± 20°. In a hunting situation I won't have a lot of time, but do know pre ranged distances. Also, I don't have the exposed turret that I can dial quickly and wanted to change it anyway. If I ever get into long range shooting I'd take a course (Fireman JG?) and learn to apply some of what you're talking about. For now, I'm looking for an edge when I see that 160"+ buck that's about 600 yards out. If he's inside my 400 yard mark I'll probably be alright.
BTW, that's a great price on the .300 Black Out you're offering.

Thanks! Does your turret cap remove or it it the type that pop up (stay attached) where you can dial your elevation?

With your set up pictured there, you WILL want to learn MOA and not use the custom turret. For 400 and in, the differences in most conditions will be a wash out, and will still yield a hit, given good shot placement. But you are certainly educing error into the equation. If you want to talk about this, feel free to give me a call, or I can post more details when I have more time. I'm just not a fan of the custom turrets for anything over about 300-400 yards. Inside that, they will work. But 400+, you need a better system for getting a round on target.
