For the last few days I've been hunting hard to punch my Eastern Turkey tag. I am good friends with the game warden and he said opening day he was hearing birds gobble but now that these storms have passed through our area it seems that the birds aren't as talkative now. Is anyone else having this problem or is it just me?

I hunted opening day and opening Saturday with a great group of guys, some of which were highly experienced turkey hunters. Among the 6 of us nobody bagged a bird, and we only heard a few gobbles to our calls. Tough hunting for sure, but it was great to be out in the woods during springtime in the Pineywoods.

Yeah even though it's been tough I really enjoy turkey hunting so far, this is my first year trying it out so I'm learning a lot by trial and error, but I have a feeling if I stick with it I'll eventually knock one down.

The last week or so they have gone silent where I've been. Hopefully it picks up soon.

I was in Stephens County yesterday...gobbling was good on the roost, but really slowed once on the ground. Birds are really broken up, with several hens with each tom.

Today was the first day I heard one gobble after hunting for a whole week, he gobbled real well and then when I got set up on him he stopped.. I waited to see if he was going to silently move into my set up but he never showed or gobbled anymore. I think maybe he got with hens and that's why I didn't hear him anymore.

They were going strong NW of Abilene this weekend. I got a beard dragger within 80 yards but a hen came in and they "did their thing". Need less to say, they are still gobbling.

@billy1968 I hunt in Lamar county, I think we are having the same problem here, they are getting with the hens before we have a chance to work them

Hunted Dickens county 9th and 10th and had sporadic action. On one day off the next. Several times they seemed interested and responded well and then it died and nothing. Just a bit early I guess.

Didn't hear any this morning, it was dead quiet. I thought it would be the perfect morning but hey that's hunting, you never know what's going to happen.

Heard at least 10 in Eastland County this morning, one coming in but 2 hens intercepted him at about 60 yards. Oh well
