Who out there builds race guns in Texas? I am thinking about building one on a kimber full size or pro. Thoughts?

Don't do it on a Kimber. Do it on something actually worth turning into a racegun.

STI is the way to go here in Texas.

My gunsmith once told me that if you're getting a 1911 and don't plan on modifying much besides replacing parts then Kimber is the way to go (this was back in the early 2000's). Because they are pretty decently finished from the factory and would take a lot to go back in there and remodify. If u want a full blown slide and frame customizing with a custom/aftermarket barrel then get the cheapest Springfield. It is so rough that it's the perfect base to refit everything and basically use just the frame and slide.

I'm a dude who likes long barrels!

Probably would benefit from reading and asking at Brian Enos' forum. He was a top tier IPSC competitor.

Why not just buy a frame and a slide then?

If going full custom them SVI Infinity, arguably the best custom 1911/2011 race guns on the planet. Right here in Texas too!

Yup.

If you don't feel like dropping $4-5k though, call Jimmy Mitchell in Breckenridge.

+1 on Jimmy. He just finished making my STI what it should have been from the factory. He is very knowledgeable and does great work for a good price.
