Hey Guys,
Recently, my uncle was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer which we learned is terminal. This fall we were thinking of taking the trip up to the duck hunting capital of the world as a "Bucket List" adventure. Do any of you who have hunted up there have any first hand recommendations for lodging and guide service? We are not picky but a lodge type place (not a Motel 6) and plenty of ducks to shoot would be a must. Thank you in advance!

I think we would be looking at two nights lodging with meals. Hopefully around $900 a person?

Pop A Duck lodge in St. Charles (just east of Stuttgart) has always treated us well. They mostly hunt out of pit blinds over flooded rice fields. They have a great lodge and all your meals are included in the cost of the hunt. The owner Dean will take good care of you. I thinks it's $350/gun/day for the hunt, lodging, meals, and bird processing. http://www.popaducklodge.com

Overall it's been average over the last 4 years. We've had some good hunts, slow hunts, and one where 6 hunters limited out in 20 minutes. We've been pretty unlucky with the conditions at times. More of our hunts have been in mild weather where we're pulling layers off rather than bundling them up. Duck hunting is big business there, and it's pretty common for those outfitters to hunt the same spots more frequently than we tend to prefer here in Texas. They can also set up afternoon hunts, but they'll shoot straight with you and tell you if they think it's worth going on one of those.

Bayou Deview Outfitters would be a good one. Mixed fields and timber shoots.
If you're just looking for good hunts and not the timber. Depending on when you're talking about, think about somewhere else on the flyway.
Obviously earlier in the fall think farther north, Washington, Nebraska, or Wyoming, then there's Kansas, Mizzou, and Oklahoma.

Five oaks might be another option. Both have lots of ducks and hunt the timber.
