I've seen this feral hog 3 times now hanging out with the cows. Right in the center of the image behind the brown and black cow is a large hog. He kept moving so I couldn't get a clear view of him. Yesterday I took a buddy up to hunt hogs and as we were passing this ranch I was telling him about seeing this hog. The cows were laying up against the fence and as we slowly drove past I spotted this hog laying in the middle of the cows right up against one of them. We sat there ogling him for almost a minute and he finally got nervous and stood up. Couldn't get my phone out for a photo before he went into hiding behind the herd again. Ever seen pigs hang out with the cows like that before?

Quite often. I find that hogs like to hang with cattle and that can make them easier to hunt.

We've seen plenty of pigs using Cows to hide behind. Kinda frustrating too! While trying to stalk some pigs one night the cows would get nervous and move off and the pigs would stay right with them.

I've seen them running with my cattle on occasion.
A couple of years ago, I had a small boar about 60 pounds that adopted my cows and went everywhere they did and hung out with them for a few weeks.
We fattened him up a bit and he became bacon.

we shot a pig and the cows actually ran to it and surrounded it (protective) and we had to shoo them away, found one cow licking the pig (get up / wake up)

True story

The one hog that I saw was across the road from a cattle ranch, that's why I didn't shoot him. He calmly walked across the road into the pasture with the herd. He found his friend, a young brahma bull, touched noses with him, and trotted off with the herd. Still don't know if he was feral or not, as they weren't known to be around back then.

I haven't seen cows lick a downed hog, but on occasion they'll wander over and surround it. I guess they're trying to figure out what's going on. Have to wave them away to get at the hog.

We have pics with pigs and cows all the time. They don't seem to bother each other at all.

I drive past a field everyday that has hogs and cows hanging out together. I think they like the rancher's miner bins and the company of the cows.

Here's the token porker of South Purmela hangin' with his friends. Notice he has no left ear and it looks like the left eye may be injured too.

If you live by the cow, you die by the cow.
The hogs also will run with our cows sometimes and the sword cuts both ways. Our cows are used to me walking amongst them so when the hogs run with the cows I've used the cattle to screen my approach and get close for the shoot.

Redomesticating?

Probably an easier life.

I have seen feral hogs snuggle up close with cows and exotics as well. Usually they get together when bait is on the ground and they congregate together. Sometimes the hogs run off the other animals. Haven't really seen them use cows as cover yet. But I would't be surprised. Wild hogs like to live and adjust there behaviour based upon what the hunters are doing and where they are going. Often times they will congregate in safe zones that hunters have overlooked. Have a horse that kicks hogs.

I used a herd of cattle to hide while stalking some hogs, got two in a watering hole. The cows didn't seem to mind after I shot.

I've done the same on a couple of occasions. The cattle don't mind, but when they figure out that you're not there to feed them they tend to wander away. Shooting in their vicinity doesn't seem to bother them unless you're pretty close by.

Aint easier to hunt if the cows are half wild and nutts. The cows act like patrol eyes and then run like hell. The pigs follow suite.

Recently got a gym membership, strange folks! I like to show up the roid zombies with my full motion curls with the 55lb. bells. Not their cheater short stroked light weights. It's holarious.

A buddy and I were out one night sitting in my truck, watching over a baited spot which had a motion light. The light came on, but it was just three does. This was early summer, and the does were heavily bred - and apparently just a wee bit irritable. They started acting jittery, and we figured some hogs were coming. Sure enough, a couple of minutes later a large hog, probably a boar, appeared at the edge of the lighted area. The does retreated, but the hog was cautious and wouldn't enter into the brighter lit area where could get a sight on him and shoot. Suddenly the does reappeared and ran the hog off! I guess those pregnant deer figured they weren't going to give up their dinner to a hog. Only time I've seen that happen.
